boz
It's almost as if I know what I'm talking about! Charles was clearly not 100% and his scoring was well down (he's been Mr Consistent at home up to now) and we badly missed Perks at reserve (although I thought Bacon battled well). Against a poorer team we might have got away with it, but the Comets have a few track experts and solid back up and deserved their win. Frustrating that we have never fielded our best 1 - 7 yet but injuries always play a part during the season. A very fair summing up I think. Thank god for Barker and Garrity tonight. Really needed Wright and JBA to step up tonight if we were to win with Perks out. Wright didnt look 100% to me. Have to say fair play to Tom Bacon though, scored in every ride and though he was unlucky to be taken out for another poor Richard Hall display. Workington were solid throughout. Top 3 were always going to score points here, and Campton and Williamson chipped in with important points. Garritys head 13 ride was superb. Jorgensen is no slouch round the MPA so to catch and pass him from 15 metres was some effort Have to say, took a while for the racing to get going tonight as well. The outside was no mans land until the last 4 or 5 races. Edited May 18, 2017 by boz
RedcarRacer
Shame we didnt ride Scunthorpe tonight, think we would have beaten a team like that...Barker and Garrity were superb. Anderson had one fine ride in Heat 14 and as said, Bacon rode really solid and looked very steady, Williamson as expected made a huge difference, as did Mason Campton - very solid indeed - mix in Redcar specialists Cook, Jorgenson and Proctor and it was always going one way... Looking forward to Ayres coming in - will make a big difference.
Marksman
Good win tonight, we caught Redcar at a good time fortunately, but all the Comets rode well, including Rob Shuttleworth who was on the pace despite not scoring. 4 points from 3 away meetings is a fantastic start, considering we only got 7 away points in total over the last 2 seasons! oldywonkenoldi
Well done to the Comets on your deserved win last night, but two things spring to mind about the meeting, Redcar are missing their injured riders which includes a not fully fit Charles Wright, and the decisions on alleged flyers from the tapes. Heat 1 Garrity was pulled back for a brilliant start, Heat 2 both Comets got same flyers, and red light flashed on momentarily, but heat was allowed to run, Then in heat 13, again perfect start from Garrity, but pulled back and then disexcludified and had to go off 15 metres, This not sour grapes, only want referees to be consistent in their decision making. Bellers101
Garrity clearly jumped in heats 1 and 13. Agree though that the ref wasn't consistent as some other offenders weren't brought back.

Absolutely chuffed to bits with our fully deserved win, Redcar were never in front from heat 1 and our boys battled all the way to the end !! Come off it, we were stood close to the start line and Garrity got flyers in at least 2 of his heats , pulled back twice and was rightly excluded. Ref was consistent, Matt and James were both pulled back when they jumped the start. I really do think that the form Matt is in at the minute he would have been on par with Perks , who didn't pull up any trees at Workington, and a bit of karma for the Wright stuff after the carry on made before heat 15 at Workington Redcar were my Dark Horses this season and for us to win last night convincingly from heat 1 , just goes to show not to write our boys off just yet Finally a thank you to your new promoter who congratulated us and thanked us for travelling over as he walked by, very nice gentleman
Yearbyred
Perks was ill when he rode at Workington but that aside his form at home has been fantastic and I'm pretty certain he would have contributed much more than his replacement and been more than a match for Williamson. As previously stated Comets caught us at a very good time and deserved their win last night.

Perks didn't pull up any trees at Workington. Putting to one side that Ellis was unwell what does this have to do with anything, last night was at Redcar. I agree that Matt is riding well and I'm very impressed with him and any team would like to have him in their side. I am a big fan. However lets put things into perspective. The only Bears that Matt took points off last night were Richard Hall, Coty Garcia, our guest reserve Tom Bacon and Charles Wright - who fell in their race together - again this isn't criticism, paid 11 from 5 rides away from home for your number 6? Who wouldn't love that! It's just that in his last 2 home matches Ellis (our #7) scored paid 31 points. Ellis and Matt would have met at least twice (and quite possibly more times) last night and would have proved slightly stiffer opposition than the 3 times he beat Richard Hall. Personally I feel a little robbed would have liked to have seen the 2 (British) youngsters going head to head. Good luck to Matt, hope he keeps on improving. Glad you like Mr. Keay. We're quite keen on him too! A well deserved victory last night and with Proctor, Jorgensen and Williamson in your team (3 I'd liked to have seen in Bears colours this year) I hope you have a successful season!

Classic Dishington! Pulls some heats back but not others, gives out warnings sometimes but doesnt follow through on them for any other tapes offences. Worst ref by far. He disappeared off the scene for a bit last year and thought he had been given his jotters.
Gazc
Lots of ifs and buts here, can folk not just credit the winning team as strange as this may be to some but perhaps they were just the better team on the night.

Yearbyred
I see that Charles Wright has pulled out of riding for Somerset tonight - could tell last night he wasn't anywhere near 100%.
Lord Lucan
Very good win for the Comets and very nice to see us taking advantage of an "underperforming" opposition for a change, pretty similar to how everyone else has taken advantage of the underperforming Comets over the last couple of years, especially away from home!!

It's certainly true, Worky were the better team on the night. The Bears fans are just bemoaning, the list of injuries and misfortunes, which has befallen the team. A fully fit Charles Wright (on his form against Berwick), would have made a huge difference. Hopefully somewhere down the line, we will see Redcar's ( new ) line up in action. Just to say, I thought the real difference between the teams was, Matt Williamson and Mason Campton, they did everything, asked of them and more. Redcar is such a fair track, that all the Workington lads like it.

No doubt the best team on the night won and you can only beat what is put against you, so full credit to the Comets It's just disappointing that we have lost this match and gone out of the cup due more to rider availability than to simply being "not the best team" on the night.

Danny will add that bit extra at reserve and getting Perks back is imperative. With those two at reserve you should be back winning matches.
