Reason For The Poll On Forum

Recommended Posts

Thanks WK but it would seem you are the only other one interested in finding a consensus of members views and so unless anyone else is interested maybe just put it down to a missed opportunity for change  .

Pity that Skid.

It would have been interesting - never mind though - you did well to get the Attendance Poll under way.

As the poll has been going for some time now I decided to contact Neil Vatcher to ask what was the official policy on publishing attendance figures and after over ten days and being prompted i got this reply "Sorry about the delay in replying , I will take your views forward."

I replied with "Thanks for your reply.

There is much discussion amongst speedway supporters concerning many aspects of the sport and, as is often the case, there are those who who try to dominate forums etc. This anonymous poll was an attempt to get the views of the silent majority on this particular subject.
As the majority are in favour of publishing figures it would be helpful to know the official view on the matter, for and against.
Six days later still no reply!

Surely you are not surprised?

Not surprised just hopeful. With a forum of this size this type of anonymous poll could be a useful way of judging supporters feelings on many issues which in turn should lead to less criticism of those in charge if it is seen that the supporters are being listened to.

I totally agree with that SS.

The problem is - do the Powers that be actually listen?

Perhaps, if they did, Speedway would be in a lot happier place.

Perhaps "...the powers that be..." checked that the present total of votes was 79 - 54 in favour and 25 NOT in favour. Than equated those figures agains the claimed current BSF membership which is given on site as 15,132.

That indicates a massive 15,053 BSF members have so far not responded.

Skid is at least trying something positive here.

Small numbers yes.

But crucially a reasonable reflection of the views of Speedway Supporters as a whole.

I had thought of that, it just shows that when a chance is given to have a say (that just might be listened to) the vast majority just couldn't care less. This poll was on a less controversial topic partly to get the feeling for such polls maybe that is why it was not subscribed to as well as it could have been

This seems a sensible view.

The result seems to be:-

0.36% of the BSF membership want to see attendance figures published.

0.17% of the BSF membership don't want to see attendance figures published.

99.48% of the BSF membership couldn't give a monkeys whether attendance figues are published.

Now, the people running the clubs know what their attendance figures are, and anyone who needs to know can be given access to those figures. So a better question might be:-

"What exactly do the 54 people who want attendance figures to be published think would be the benefit of such a practice?"

I can't think of one single benefit the sport would gain from making such information available to the general public.

I think that the only reason these people want attendance figures made public is for their own personal nosiness and not for any benefit to the sport.

Neither can I, and as I said earlier in the Thread, it could even be detrimental to attendances.

Or it could set up more competition among supporters to encourage others to attend and swell their numbers. Just a thought as there are usually two sides to any argument, I can see both.

I am in the - it would be detrimental to the sport camp. Even more reasons for local newspapers and radio to "give speedway a miss" too. And yes 99% of fans probably don't give a monkey's.
