Grachan
Bunch of uncouth midlanders how dare they, was it Wolves or Coventry? I had to listen to northerners at Belle Vue singing something about Shooting a Robin...totally disrespectful and ghastly people, took me days to get over it. Us simple folk toil hard in the fields on our tractors. We enjoy going to Blunsdon to watch motor bikes race, and having a few ciders, dont need people poking fun at us. Both probably. And Cradley! moxey63
Speedway's lack of crowds means that there isn't really a group of fans at most track to begin a chant as such and therefore it would be left to one man and his dog to whip one up on their lonesome. Can imagine at this point that security would rush over, call social services and then the RSPCA getting involved, when that person suddenly throws their walking aid into the air and begins chanting some insane speedway tune in one corner of an empty stadium. It isn't football... so let's not go there. Stop comparing the two. Edited May 17, 2017 by moxey63

nw42
Its dire these days.In the 80's 90's there used to be a lot of crowd noise, fan banter, sometimes a bit ott.Hanging over the boards after a race clapping/cheering/fist staking with a pint in one hand. Those were the days. Is that you Soldier Boy?
Trees
If only every club could rustle up a group of fans who are up for a laugh, to chant, cheer, blow airhorns, wave flags, jump up and down, whatever ...... it's infectious lol
mikebv
Needs a crowd to make some atmosphere... A decent amount of away fans too would help.... To be fair though.. Pretty hard to generate atmosphere when, for instance, someone starts a Mexican wave and you are relying on the ref and starting marshall to join in just to keep it going....☺
allthegearbutnaeidea
Probably 99% of fans don't even bother posting on here, why worry about a few faceless peeps.I don't take it seriously ave a laugh! Great stuff, good clean fun, even though some of the riders don't ride there now.How many are singing? Are you English or Scotties, and why do Football team play in Scottish leagues? Try the Morra and Bridger songs! Or no one knows us we dont care! Theres about 10-20 of us, mixed race😉we're too good for English football. As for riders interaction Kevin Doolan bows down to us after a race win when chanting his name and pats the Bandits badge and blows kisses at us, Kozza Smith used to get off his bike at the start line after a race win jump the fence and do high fives with all the kids in the grandstand. BangerBoy
its exactly this what is missing in British speedway , it's a connection/bond between a team and it's fans , doubling up and riders becoming these "jet set athletes " has all but destroyed the bond and fans are struggling to identify themselves with the riders and their team totally agree

mikebv
I wish the promoters could find a way to help fans support their teams away by making entrance cheaper .... Wouldn't be hard to do... Just let the away team sell tickets to their fans from their own ticket office... Even Premier League football caps an away ticket at £30 for every match so why doesn't Speedway do it for say a tenner?... eg. BV v Swindon this week would see Swindon fans getting in for a tenner, which might just encourage some to attend? Throw in a free programme too and they would save around a tenner on the usual costs. Four people in a car would therefore save forty quid between them which would go a long way to pay for expensive fuel, and BV would pick up forty quid that more than likely they wouldn't have... The more away fans, the better the atmosphere, the better the atmosphere, the more likely are people to attend again.. Twenty Swindon fans paying a tenner each is better than none at all paying full price...

Starman2006
not allowed to make too much noise or stand up in the grandstand at Poole or else the H & S tw@ts will be on your back. creepy little sh!ts they are. You can stand right at the back of the main grandstand. Nothing stopping you from doing that.. But chanting and cheering and the like went out in the 70's.. Sadly. Hamish McRaker
Said this many times, speedway needs to follow the road taken by darts, snooker, boxing by getting riders to have nicknames - not the boring predictable type but put a bit of thought into it. Secondly, there arn't enough villains who can get the crowd fired up and booing. It's all got far too nice.
Daniel Smith
Season tickets should include half price admission to away matches As for chanting, have wanted to to this at King's Lynn but only a handful seem interested in bothering. Maybe we should go down the route of rentacrowd to get people involved.
Gresham
'Drink up thy zider, drink up thy zider,For tonight we'll merry be....(merry be) We're going down to Wimborne, to turn the Pirates over And there's still more Zider in the jar'... ;-) 'Hello hello...we are the Rebels boys,Hello hello...we are the Rebels boys,And if you are a Pirates fan, surrender or you die,We all follow the Rebels'... 'Yer sister is yer mother,Yer uncle is yer brother,You only s*ag each other,The Pirates family'... 'Flying high up in the sky,We'll keep the rebs flag flying high,Cider heads until we die,We'll keep the rebs flag flying high'... 'We all follow the Rebels,Over land and sea, (and Pirates),We all follow the Rebels,Onto victory.... (repeated) 'My Ol man, said be a Pirates fan...I said '**** off, B*****X...youre a........ ' hahahaha ;-) Can just hear it now from the banks of the Oaktree lol In all seriousness though, it does need a little more input from the riders as well as the fans imo. I noticed last night, Richard Lawson fist pumping to the Somerset fans after his great rides. Took a lap after the race doing it...such a simple gesture, but it led to applause, increased the atmosphere and led to a better 'feeling' amongst the crowd. A simple gesture, that made a difference imo.
moxey63
When Wolverhampton were a good side in the mid 90s they sued to bring a lot of fans to Belle Vue. Their number and collective noise created great banter and even keener support from both sets of supporters, and the matches seemed more evenly contested out on the track. I suppose that's why the old Wolves-Cradley matches were so intense. Perhaps encouraging away support by lowering admission for away fans would be worth a try - but it isn't my money and the promoters will have to consider this. I know this could be open to abuse, but there must be away to ensure that only away fans can pass the test. But, again with me, I have a negative. You have to give the fans from both sides a reason to support their teams... and this means riders they connect with. Otherwise it's a case of showing your passions for somebody that's going to leg it for the quickest door once they have chance. Once stung and all that. A simple gesture, that made a difference imo. I've always thought this but it doesn't seem to be too important for some fans judging by replies I've had in the past. Does to me though and it used to irritate me at Coventry when certain riders used to win a race and then go straight back to the pits. Money earned and that's it ~ no interaction with the fans at all. Well, sorry but it's all part of the match to me and I'd like to feel they are pleased to have won the race for their team and appreciate the fans. At least at Leicester the winning rider gets a flag shoved into his hand and does a victory lap so it all adds to the 'feel good' factor.
