Speedway-ism

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I am looking for some information around what people wear to Speedway events? Is there any special chant or song which is associated with Speedway? Do people take any merchandise such as flags etc?

Is he back?

Don't think it's ever been away. Posting under numerous usernames - even talking to itself. Elplanko!!!

Sad outcome is, every new poster is an instant suspicion.

Welcome to the forum Sophie. Apparently people usually wear anoraks to Speedway. Or, if you are a Wolves fan an 'I Love Tai' T-shirt is a must.

Sleeveless denim jacket, worn over a sleeved denim jacket..

The sleeveless jacket will have lots of sew on patches, with 'happiness is 40-38' on at least one of them..

A baseball cap type of headgear is preferred from circa 1985 with an obscure USA surfing company name on the front of it.

Camping chair with tartan blanket and matching flask, with a dark blue gola bag worn over the shoulder is optional.

Incognito. Bra, pants, tights, socks, trousers, two jumpers, cardigan, thick coat, plain scarf, gloves, hat, trainers. Merchandise.......Crisps, Kit-Kat, can of Pepsi Max, blanket for the dog, programme board, pen, poop bags just in case (for the dog not me) chair to sit on, Don't do any chanting as I might wake the dog up.

How do you carry that lot!?

Chair, drink, bar of choc, Swindon red and purple scarf if cold, English flag at Cardiff only.

Never hear chanting at speedway now which is a pity.

beefy keefy................How do you carry that lot!?

With great difficulty. But now Coventry have closed I'm back at Leicester so my husband goes there and can help.

Swindon red and purple scarf........

Red and Purple scarf? What happened to Swindon's colours? My friends from Basingstoke must be out of touch with the latest fashion then because they were all wearing Red/White scarves when I was with them on April 1st.

They argue that speedway should be on television more, it's a sport that everyone would love....then they seek an available internet link to watch it for free! It's free, simply because idiots like me are paying for it!!!!!!!!!

There is merit in what you say there Moxey63.

I saw the GP on Saturday - but I can't say that I am missing the League action on the Television. I can't see the point of starting the coverage halfway through the Season as BT are doing. Seems very odd to me.

But it makes sense WK. Much of the early-season league campaign is about dropping points to allow new signings mid-season, just in time for a Play-Off push and then the Semis and Final. If every league match meant something, then I'd say it is strange to start coverage in June. Some sides only take it seriously when the kids break up for the six weeks holidays. The old way, before Play-Offs, teams would not muck about being hammered by massive scores. The Play-Offs allow a certain amount of... can I say... foreplay. The eve-of-season Speedway Star and all the expert tips gets me. Come the first six weeks I bet half of the sides have had at least one team change.

The double thickness red n purple one is from the 2012 champions season. I'm too tight to buy a new one. Good to see folk from Bstoke making the 90 mile round trip to Swindon. Also get fans from Bath Bristol Gloucester Chelts Oxford Reading Wales Southampton.
