This is going to be a tight meeting indeed..

Just been on the Plymouth website why the heck cant you see what the opposition guys scored against you on the fixtures/results list very odd any moan over.

With Roberts and leek unlikely to score many but hopefully show improvement again puts the pressure on Layne to score the points if he can hit double figures possibly takes 6 rides i think we nick this meeting 44-46 ...

The key to our narrow success is getting boxall beat a couple of times and Layne to score 10+ (from 6 possibly)

I thought this would be a relatively comfortable Brummies win until JPB's injury. He'd had been good for 11pts from 5 rides but Ritchings, Cupitt, Leek & Roberts won't get anywhere near that for R/R and it also means Leek & Roberts have to take at least 4 rides each.

Edit: Who's Hopwood in for?

The vagaries of speedway's rules make JPB our fourth averaged rider tonight. Had the meeting been on Monday, he would have been number one and could have been replaced by any guest of our choice since from Monday he will be the highest averaged rider in the National League..

Don't think I am moaning about this though. Just pointing out the irony. There has to be a cut off date and it's just our bad luck that in this instance it is two days too late for us.

Good luck to the team tonight - and best wishes to Jack for a quick recovery.

Hopwood us for JPB

Rider rep for Roberts.

What points we lose from JPB, we gain from ridercreo for Roberts.

Missing JPB, is a major blow snd takes away any chance we had if winning

Clearly a tactical move there as Hopwood in rather than JPB R/R strengthens you massively. So Roberts is missing as his family have work but the club would've known that when they put their initial team out with him riding! Whilst Roberts R/R facilitates this and Hopwood and 3 rides from Cupitt will get you way more than he would e scored in his 4 guaranteed outings. I'd be surprised if Brummies don't win this.

Always saying they are going to lose when they know they hardly ever do. Is it some sort of superstition?

Comfortable win for the Brummies as usual.

As a Birmingham supporter I wouldn't dispute the fact that it is highly probable that this was a "tactical" move. Why Oh why do the promoters not think things through before they introduce these kind of rules? A child of 5 could have worked it out that allowing riders to just opt out of riding in inconvenient fixtures would be abused left right and centre.

What's the alternative Brian? Without that rule you pretty much exclude from the NDL riders without a driving licence, and/or still at school, and/or needing to work to support their racing. The league becomes a haven for experienced professional riders towards the end of their career.

There was a 'similar ban' when the original National League was formed in 1947. It didn't last very long and the inclusion of 'experienced riders' proved to be the making of what became a great addition to mainstream speedway. And over the seasons it did not prevent many newcomers from supersceding 'the veterans' - just a few newcomers who spring to mind are Geoff Bennett, Cyril Roger, Alan Hunt, Bob Oakley, Don Hardy, Ken Middleditch.

Can't quite see what you are getting at with this reply. The "please yourself when you ride" rule seems to have been abused/used by more of the established National League riders than by Junior riders. Tom Perry, Georgie Wood, Jake Knight, Richard Andrews, Jack Kingston are a few examples.

I can appreciate the difficulties that individual riders might sometimes have with their daytime jobs, but I'm just suggesting that clubs who are prepared to put up with this shouldn't be allowed to use guests or rider-replacement - they should have to promote a number 8.
