Somerset V Wolves Friday 5th May 19;30

As long as we are in the top 4 come the end of the season, that's all that matters and if we win our home meetings with a few wins away then we certainly will be. As we witnessed last season, finishing 1st in the table means nothing! All on the playoffs.....

The important factor as you rightly say is finishing in the top 4, but finishing top does mean something to the fans of the club who finish there, as you know we lost to a very good Wolves team in the final last season, but I and many other Belle Vue fans still feel a sense of achievement at finishing top of the table.

You finish top you get the pick. Win the semi you get the pick of legs in the final.

Correct, so finishing in the top 2 is the first priority.

Definately. Anybody that says differently is kidding themselves. Yes you can win the league by finishing 3-4th we've done it, but it does make life easier..

The only thing that matters is A) being in the top 4 come September and more importantly B) being in good form.

Being top is irrelevant these days as whilst it's great satisfaction at ending the league programme as the team with the most points it means diddly squat if you don't win the play off final.

Most of the whinging and whining from supporters over the years is when the team who finishes top doesn't win the play offs, as they have not earned that right to be crowned champions.

If Wolves stay top now till the play offs it matters very little unless they are carrying form as well.

Keep what trophy clean??

There hasn't been a trophy yet for the Premiership.

The EL trophy for 2016 looks great in CVS office, where it will stay.

That proves to all the doom and gloom merchants you can use the whole track, and not just one line.

Just in case you have missed it there isn't an EL this year so a new trophy will be required.

KK will probably be at reserve for the play offs, so you might stand a chance .

Yawn same old brum bullrubbish

a team only needs to win around half of their meetings to qualify for the more important cup effectively rendering nearly half the fixtures as less important to win, a defeat simply doesn't matter in nearly half the meetings.

I've no idea if there has been a negative effect on UK attendance's since the cup and qualifier was introduced but the Swedish attendance figures someone linked clearly showed a negative trend after the qualifier and cup format was introduced, which is what you would expect.

No good talking to him fred, he's not been to bed yet.. He's been on here all night.. :o

Just waiting for the usual suspect of saying I'm bullying ya.

Perhaps more realistic to say that the only thing that matters is being in the top 4 and being in a position to make team changes. Preferably, to be able to bring in someone on an old CMA that doesn't reflect their current better form or, for an off form rider to be "injured" and replaced by horses for courses guests or a better rider.

The new rules for this year might prevent the former but probably not the latter.

Team changes are part of the game, whether they are right is very much open to opinion.

With regards Wolves changes last season, perfectly legal. NO team should have benefited from using Tai other than Wolves on his low 7 average after the dire season we had to endure with his tired season long performance previously.

I'd rather riders like Tai, Greg, Tonio etc commit to our league for a full season but what a joy it is when they do appear.

The change in rules is likely to rule that out which is a pity but of course sticks in the throat of some who are dead against strengthening up for the play offs.

Steve, nothing wrong with team changes, what is wrong is when riders are brought in on an old or assessed average that does not reflect their current form.

We could easily have a fair and transparent system by working

out a formula to convert current foreign league averages to Premiership or Championship averages.

I understand that you are in favour of bringing in some of those riders who have deserted the UK. I have nothing against that when they are prepared to commit to a full season here but don't want to see them here when they are just using the UK because their season has effectively finished in Poland and/or Sweden.

On a different topic it is good to see that fans again enjoyed the quality of racing at Somerset. If the sport is to thrive all tracks should be doing their utmost to produce the best racing track they can.
