Redcar V Berwick Ch 4th May

Recommended Posts

I think I'd look to replace Hall with a youngster, anyone can ride round at the back and grab a few gift points, whereas someone younger might actually improve, Richard has gone so far downhill now that there's no way back up.

I do tend to agree unfortunately. There no real names that spring to mind at the moment to replace him though - the likes of Bickley and Brennan are too young I think and most other CH standard riders are either already in the league or ruled out due to other commitments.

What about Danny Ayres. .?

What about Danny Ayres. .?

Too high an average.

Even before Richard gets his 'new' 2.00 average after our next home league match Danny wouldn't fit. And thanks to the improvements in Jason, Charles, Jonas and Ellis we are currently averaging well over 40 points as a team so replacements can only be done on a like for like basis, so currently anyone on a 3.61 average or below (Danny is 3.7) or after our next home match 2.

Could fit Ayres in if we redeclared and dropped Busch - for example Garcia & Ayres would fit, Busch and ayres wouldn't

I think the key is how realistic is a Busch return at some point this season, if it is doubtful them we really need to change now - especially as Garcia's 28 day spell ends next week.

As with everyone I've been very impressed with everything the new promotion have done so far, but next week or so is probably their biggest test so far in how the club goes forward!

I'm pretty certain Shanes has said he wouldn't ride in the CH due to his grasstrack commitments. May change if he loses his Poole place I guess - but people complain as it as about riders missing meetings so not sure signing someone who we know would miss a lot of meetings would be a good idea.

I agree. Want Tobias back in the team as soon as/if fit. But if it's months away we need to consider changes to maintain the feelgood factor at the MPA.

Surely Richard Hall's average will only go down to a 3.00? The two point deal was only for NL riders coming into Championship for the first time, no?

At present our top four and probably the best reserve in the league are doing a job, albeit a good job, but teams don't win much when two members are not up to it, granted Coty was brought in as a replacement and is doing his best, but I, like the majority of Bears fans are disappointed with the form of Richard, a man of his experience should not be scoring 1 point in meetings, I don't know what the problem is, I have no idea about bike settings or mechanics, so is he riding on a track too small for his liking. However I hope he does sort himself out so he can help us maintain our good start to this season.

..... and probably the best reserve in the league ..................

Perks is a fair way down the pecking order for that honour I'm afraid.

Mark Riss, BWD, Matt Williamson, Danny the Gapp and even Stefan Nielsen all a fair way ahead.

I would suggest he should have said best no7 in the league, I can't think of a better one!

All of those are number 6s. Perks being the best number 7, he was meaning.

If a 2 point junior replaced Hall, would he ride at 6 (replacing Hall) or 7 (with Perks moving up to 6). If Perks moves to 6 he would have a lot harder rides and could loose a few points a meeting due to it.

Going purely on averages............

Williamson 5.89 (but in fairness only from 3H/1A)

The Gapp 5.79 (3H/4A)

Sid Perks 5.33 (3H/3A)

But I agree when it comes down to nuumber 7's he might well be the strongest - just a pity that the number 6 is one of the weakest.

Who knows?

Probably only a couple of dozen speedway promoters, and they'll change their mind when next weeks batch of Supplementary Regulations are issued.

On point 1 if Halls average can only drop to 3 (and to be fair to him it is 2.48 at the moment and not the 2 my previous post suggested) then even more excuse to get rid.

On point 2 I'd rather see Perks riding against better riders. How is someone going to get any better. I'm sorry but I don't agree with this 'you must have a 'x.xx' rider in your team but we'll at least give him easier rides' rubbish. If you're good enough, you're good enough. Bring on the stars - I'll show them!

As to averages, well! Those who know me know that I spend probably 50% of my awake life doing stats. I'm sorry, but being such an important part of British speedway they are very important, however.....

a riders average cannot begin to explain the importance of that rider to the team that he is riding for. A 3 point reserve for the worst team in the league can be just as (if not more) important/exciting/entertaining than a 5 point reserve in the best team.

Oh! Stats, I love 'em, but they do my head in most of the time.

Well he's taking lots of extra rides now, including replacing the number six, I doubt it would make any difference.

Youre right, Redcar have 3.61. Ayres average with a 2.5% reduction is 3.61. Get him in now!

If he doesn't do much in his first few meeting when Busch is back Garcia would probably be able to replace him on his new average.

I said at the start of the year Redcar were my dark horses. Get Ayres in and I don't think they could be dark horses any more as everyone would start to take them as a genuine threat to the title.
