Belle Vue V Somerset - 1/5/17 , 12pm

Recommended Posts

Would normally have predicted a Aces home win , but the Rebels have a few riders who flew around the NSS last year

Hougaard,Tungate

and with Bjerre missing again, and also taking into account how Leicester rode last week ,

This could be closer than expected

Interested to see local lad Charles Wright around BV as well

In fsirness it used to happen back in the 80s that both sides would have a hl missing and agree to replace then with local juniors.

These occasions gave opportunities to the likes of Bernie Collier, Glen Hornby, Declan Eccles, Lee Edwards and no doubt many others who were chomping at the bit, shame they can't adopt this policy again.

I think its more of a shame they can't just adopt a policy to sort the sport out and have the riders who should be there actually turn up......

The added bonus to making the sport look like it's run properly and not Mickey Mouse, will be no requirement for 100's of daft regulations needing writing, re-writing, re-writing again, and then, from time to time, ultimately completely ignored!...

(Which ironically makes the sport then look even more Mickey Mouse!)

Lets make it really, really simple...

Riders sign a contract for a Speedway team, and injuries or illness aside, they ride for them in every match, and Clubs don't arrange matches when their riders are already booked elsewhere. ..

Guess what, I reckon if you do that crowds will start to increase, or at the very least, not drop in the numbers they have over the years as total incredulity and disillusionment with British Speedway has set in....

That's what Poland have done, yet plenty of people on here have whinged about it.

Realistically if you want riders to be loysl and commit to every meeting you need to:

Plan fixtures sensibly

Not terminate riders contracts if they have a few bad meetings

Pay more than they can get elsewhere

Poland get rid of riders probably faster than anywhere else as they have a supply line that exceeds demand...

Two bad rides in a meeting and you can be out not just for the rest of that match but every match as you may never get back in if your replacement does the business. ..

What Britain needs to do is exactly that. Make sure the supply of riders exceeds its required demand, which makes it all the more ludicrous to keep running three leagues with seven man teams in each, as to deliver this number they all have to 'share' riders...

Absolute Crackers....

You simply will never deliver credibilty when riders have to be in two places at once so they end up getting covered with a guest from either the same league or the one below...

As for paying more? Even in the halcyon days of the sport in the 70's it was often only the First Division heat leaders who were 'fully professional' (and not all of them by any means) and most only rode in one league, 40 or so matches a season tops...

So maybe the 'fully professional' non GP, non international class, non 'top league heat leaders' of today need to top up there Speedway earnings elsewhere doing a 'day job' and the sport become what it really should be for most, (in this country) ie semi pro...

A few of us coming down for this meet, our first visit to the new Belle Vue track, we have booked tickets on line so would be helpful to know the best place for parking etc.

Thanks.

If Your there early enough , Park on Kirkmanshulme lane ( next to stadium / dog track ) or failing that official car park on pink bank lane £ 3 , i think ?

There is parking at the stadium near the entrance to the south stand and the school which is a little bit further down kirky lane.If you get there early enough you should be OK. It costs 3 pounds but you car is safe and its got security staff on both.

Thanks
