Wolves V Rye House - 24th April 17

Recommended Posts

Kennett is usually decent enough around Monmore, must be a reason for his Watt-esque showing.

Clegg's been poor this season, hence them dropping him. The reasoning that he'd like to prove a point makes some sense but his poor form should have been good enough reason to steer clear. Bewley would have been the ideal guest. Does the eight day rule apply to meetings for a rider's own club as he was there last week? Otherwise not booking him was a big faux pas.

Meeting done by 9.10pm.It can be done.

9.10 is about the time Poole meetings usually finish.

Dads Army might be good around their own patch but they don't travel very well. Kennett absolutely shocking. Thing is Rye are relying on Nicholls and Harris to score well and both are a few years past their best. With Kennett having a mare this was always the likely outcome.

Someone said on the Rye v Poole thread that there are no t/rs in the playoffs and Rye would fairly easily be able to defend an 8 point lead at Poole. No chance. What happened to them tonight will be repeated on more than one occasion in 2017.

Rye the leagues new Lakeside.

Wolves always start on time and finish at a reasonable time. The place is actually run well and it's. Or surprise they are one of the most stable and well supported teams in British Speedway.

Do Rye supporters really care what you say or think Steve ?

I doubt it as we have been watching lower league racing for ever and this is a new beginning so worrying about the playoffs at this time of year is laughable!

Going to take some effort for any team to beat the Wolves side at home this season, looking very solid, especially with Greaves starting to chip in with a few points. Pleased for Howarth that his strong start to the season continues, have followed his progress since his early Colts days, his career seems to be kicking on a notch in 2017. Still one or two concerns about this Wolves side on the road, but certain top 4 side for me - & being so strong at home they'll be a tough nut to crack come September & the playoffs.

The vast majority of speedway supporters only attend home meetings. As long as they see their team win on their own track they're usually pretty content.

To think some were calling for Robbo to be replaced a couple of weeks ago.

Let's not forget Poole were tonked at Wolves by 20 points around this time last year, ex world champ Holder scoring three duck eggs

That's the one I was thinking of. Early season, so no panic. Not many will come away from Wolves with anything but their tails between their legs, especially now they've strengthened.

Tremendous night's racing; Rye contributed far more to the action than the scoreline might suggest and I hope their travelling fans enjoyed the evening despite the result. Branford, from memory, is decent at Monmore and might have chipped in with a few while Harris appeared mechanically stricken and didn't hit his stride until later on. Robson always a pleasure to watch at the Green.

Wolves very impressive with Lindgren different gravy, opening a gap for Howarth in one race and closing the door on a rival to protect him in another. Schlein impressive on debut and Mark Riss (not a rider I had seen before) very neat and tidy, can turn it on a sixpence (Edinburgh upbringing, doubtless). Daft as it may sound it was his last place that made me sit up; he was on the pace in what was a hot heat.

Good stuff!

You weren't mentioned by name, but if the cap fits...

Was a very rare visitor to the EL section when Rye were PL. I was aware of your reputation and was looking forward to some verbal jousting. Seems I was misinformed. At least Starman gives it some effort, even if he's made to look a fool most of the time.

I don't 'joust' with morons who make such disgusting remarks.

Not totally surprised by the score as I still don't rate this Rye team.

Some cracking racing though. Thoroughly enjoyed that match.

Wolves much more balanced with the new lineup. Clegg again proving it was right to drop him. If there was the perfect opportunity to get instant revenge for getting the chop tonight was it, but it made no difference and his form remaind the same.

Schlein for Skornicki was a no brainer.

And to think you are grown men!!

Back to speedway...I went tonight with so many ex bees riders on show, it was a good meeting although all over by heat 2 in all fairness.

Wolves look a powerful team, the addition of Rory is a going to serve you well. In previous where the reserves have struggled they have chipped in with good points and Riss looked good quality. Be interesting to see how they go against a better reserve pairing though.

Rye looked ready for a right tonking after 8 laps of racing, Eddie has reached British final "finals" in the past and tonight he looked like he had never been round the track before. He wobbled around first ride, fell on his own in another and didn't look confident at all. Bomber struggled for speed and of course gating wasn't great but his last 2 rides put himself about and the effort wasn't lacking but bike issues still continue to frustrate. Scott started well and just was out gated and on a few occasions, as with bomber the effort was there but wolves were just too good. Wells scored more than Watt would have and looked quick, Robson was the rider of the night for the away team, clever lines and great skill on the bike and some great rides.

The racing was good, I just find wolves track to stop-start to enjoy going regular. The second bend is key to so many races, away riders take it wide and home riders go the inside line. Being used to Brandon which is bigger and riders taking the speed through the bends rather than turning so sharp and being more of a race track. All tracks differ and it's going to take a very very good team to beat wolves at home if this team stays fit.
