cyclone
That is an extraordinary choice. Berge scored 8 + 1 from 4 and 9 + 2 from 5 for Sheffield at the EWR last year, so he has a decent record there. Though his current form at Shielfield in particular has been indifferent, perhaps he will be more comfortable at Scunny today.

I hope for Scunthorpe's sake you're right but he was a different rider last season. He's dropped 2.5 points off his average this year and is receiving barrage of criticism, to the point where last night a team manager tried to get him excluded for not trying. There aren't many options out there but I would be surprised if there isn't someone better.
DSC67
I wouldn't say Berge was in the last chance saloon, but going by his performances lately he's certainly running out of bars

scotchopper
What a turn around, huge win for the monarchs. Shame about the scunny riders and hope they're back soon but you can only beat what is in front of you. Every heat winner after race 5.
screm
Talk about comeback, Scunthorpe six up after eight races and go on to lose by sixteen, it takes quite a bit of doing but they have somehow managed it.

TheScotsman
Indeed. 1 race winner in the first 6 races was not in the script. And neither was the next 9 in a row.
Fromafar
Credit to Monarchs they seem to to make good decisions when it comes to Team building every season. Edited April 23, 2017 by Fromafar
Albert
Despite the defeat and the margin of the score... there was some fantastic racing to keep the punters entertained. After a few FTGs, we witnessed some stupendous heats, some fantastic riding. Without Auty and Kerr, Scunny were never gonna win..they started well.. but after heat six... and when Edinburgh had got Davys rides out the way, there was no looking back. The strength of the Monarchs top guys began to show and they inevitably ran out easy victors. I was particularly impressed with Josh Pickering, a bit wild at times but fast and exciting to watch. Bit puzzled as to why Scunny couldn't get a guest for Kerr... Berge was Ok, but was he the right choice for this meeting?...Surely using RR for Auty would've been a better option, at least Tofty and Douglas would've been able to take a ride instead of having to use the reserves and Wilko. Anyhow.. look forward to next week.. hopefully we'll have our full 1-7.. including a new number 6, whoever that might be.... we await with interest. One last observation from todays meeting... the famous gate 4 only produced three race winners! Edited April 23, 2017 by Albert
Fozzie4388
Seems Scunny gave it a good go up to Heat 10 before running out of gas. Very unlucky fellas. They're were always going to be up against it but to lead that long into the meeting shows there is something good there. I'm sure even better times are just around the corner and good luck to them.
Gunner85
Excellent racing with good riding from both sides. Rob has a plan so no doubt team changes will be announced shortly.
thebaron
Fantastic meeting of 'two halves' Scorpions raising hopes and excitement by winning the first half to Ht8 and then Monarchs exerting their superior team strength on the day; from Ht9. Lets be fair here; this was always a tough one given the loss of Lewis Kerr and Josh Auty. Rider Replacement for Lewis (who would have been expected to score well in this meeting) was never going compensate for his loss. But we battled and the racing was top draw. Ht8 "what a bloody race that was" ! to quote genial Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey on the mike and he weren't kidding either. Monarch New Aussie second string Josh Pickering was making his EWR debut; but clearly closed his eyes and crossed everything when he decided to barnstorm it round the fence on Turns1-2 to jet propel himself into first down the back straight. Never mind the Crazy Frog as Rob exclaimed this is Crazy Speedway ! So much in this meeting to keep you focused with both teams at it hammer and tongs. Monarchs may have exerted their advantage in the second half but got to give credit to the Scorpions for taking the fight to them. Ryans fall in Ht13 when challenging and MPT's Ht14 blow up on the line stalled our attempts to stay in the meeting to the last; but we were up against it from the off. Just a mention for guests Richard Hall - giving his 'all' and involved in close combat with the Monarchs throughout; and "Crazy Frog Frenchman Dimitri Berge - who despite some indifferent early season form for the Berwick Bandits again underlined his liking for the EWR with some exciting passing attempts on the opposition. Cheers guys your welcome anytime. Seeing this in the context of the result; is only half the story and probably not that. There was so much more to savour and the promise of more to come from the team once we make the anticipated change to the line up. With everyone back and Rob's promised 'game changer' on board this season is far far from over for the Scorpions. The win at Berwick on Saturday and the performance at Workington a week earlier; showed that we have it in us to be challenging in this League. A look through the results so far; tells you that all teams are competing and there is a long long way to go. Few rumours circulating the terraces on the new signing David Howe an obvious name; while Joe Jacobs and Stefan Nielsen garnered a few votes. For me respect to all; but I would favour Nielsen; never a dull moment at Sunny Scunny Speedway is there ? IronScorpion
Albert. Rob did say from the centre green that he tried to get a guest for Kerr(Bates) but he was already guesting so limited options. I can't believe what I read from Fozzie ...............Praise rather than a pull down. Wonders never cease. The rumours from the terraces are just talk, but what I find hard to fathom, but not disputing what David has said as it was backed up by CVS from Wolves. If David is on a 4.8 ave(6.72 / 1.4 his old 2015 CMA divided by the conversion factor this year of EL ave x 1.4 if not got a PL ave), does this then apply to all riders that have not got a place, ie Jacobs, Nielsen & others this year. I expected David's to be reduced because of having a year out. To follow Scunthorpe's averages, they are on the Speedway GB website http://www.speedwaygb.co/scunthorpe17 Just click on team name to view any team from the 3 divisions

If his old Premier average was 6.72 then that is what his average is. The reduction if you have had a year out through injury, if that is justified in this case, was formerly 8%, which would make him 6.18. Division by 1.4 isn't remotely relevant.
