Belle Vue V Leicester 21/4/17 7.30pm

Recommended Posts

Excellent meeting, ran in good time despite plenty of RR breaks. Leicester were terrific, fully deserved their point. Always enjoyed watching Palm Toft at the old BV track, clearly improved since then & shone again on a track he enjoys. Expect him to wear the Ace again in the next 12 months.

Great to see Max showing real speed again at home. What a ride as well from Dan Bewley to hold off the hard charging Josh Bates in heat 14.

Plenty of Lions fans up here tonight, hope you enjoyed the racing, your team did you proud.

You could say we got out of jail tonight as i thought Leicester could have gone on to win this, they put in a very good performance and were well deserving of their point. When the pressure was on the Aces came to the party, there is a good team ethic going on with this side which seems to underline Mark Lemon sides, he has restored that winning mentality after years of defeatest attitude at KL. This is what Belle Vue used to be about, its said the mark of any good side is winning when below par which we certainly were early doors good result and again well done Leicester.

If you'd have said Lions would gain an away league point before the match I'd have taken it!

However, given that Belle Vue had Kenneth Bjerre out and that we had a track specialist in Michael Palm Toft in and also we were 6 points up with three heats to go - can't help feeling we managed to pluck defeat out of a certain win tonight !

Still, that's two away meets we have given a good account of ourselves ( Wolves and BV who are both strongly fancied ) long may it continue ....

Cheers

Not the best racing we've seen at the NSS, due to the track being grippier than usual but some good races and the close scoreline kept the tension right to the end. R/R for Bjerre produce only 4 points and that with the addition of Michael Palm-Toft to the Lions team evened up the respective strengths.

The Aces came good at the end, with special mention for Bewley, who rode a determine and intelligent race in heat 14 to keep the chasing Bates and Ayres behind him. A good 3 points for Belle Vue and a deserved point for Leicester. Good to see Fricke back to his best.

Great result in the end. Knew it would be close.

Racing wise it was a bit of a shocker barring the off pass here and there. Luckily the score line helped us to all feel entertained.

Unsure why the track produced so little racing tonight. Don't know if it was to grippy or not enough grip. It diddnt look grippy bit the guy in front pulling away made it look grippy.

That is a massive wake-up call for Belle Vue, but they dropped no points. 3 5-1's to finish the meeting for maximum points is good going. At least for the Lions Gomolski finally got his act together.

It was too grippy Phil. You can see by the colour of the shale. It's down to the weather, I know it didn't rain today but it was damp, there was a lot of moisture in the air.

As soon as I walked out to the track I knew it would mostly be follow the leader. Called it straight away.

Actually when I say grippy I mean just slightly damp. Was same against wolves. When moisture gets into the material there only seems to be 1 race line. Times were saw as usual.

Not really. RR gave 4 points. MPT made them stronger.

Both regular 1 to 7s would have been easy home win

Sounds like we as Aces fans are getting a bit spoilt if last night's racing is being mentioned as quite poor. ..

Several races were 'down to the line' whereby off the final bend you couldn't pick the winner with any degree of certainty that you can at most tracks...

Off the top of my head, Worrall, Fricke, Nilsson, MPT, Cook, Bates and Bewley all made good moves to pass opposition riders and several made room for their team mate to come through too, so some great team riding....

Too much grip at 'two thirds track' at the start led to the first races becoming a bit 'one line fastest', but as the track became slicker and the thicker, moist dirt dissapated the racing became what it usually is at the NSS..

Shame more are not there to see it, 1300-1400 or so last night?

That fantastic Grandstand less than half full never looks good if your trying to create an impression of a successful venture...

Having seen two awful meetings in the last week I'm genuinely envious of what you guys are able to watch each week. We are actually up here at the moment as my in laws live in Manchester but couldn't get up early enough due to work, we will plan a couple of visits later in the season which involve leaving home early enough to take in the speedway. It's a pity that both Lynn visits are on Wednesdays which seems very odd.

If BV were ruthless and changed Sedgmen how good would they be?!

8 points with 1 bonus points from 5 rides. What do you expect from your 2nd strings. JS is settling in nicely thank you.

Leicester's riders and fans can feel proud of the way the riders attacked the meeting from the word go, Belle Vue were just to strong in the final 3 heats which swung the match in our favour.

The bumps given to Max at the end showed what great team spirit we now have at Belle Vue.

I've been happy with sedgman.

He also seems very popular in the pits. And He is always chatting to the reserves and advising. He seems well respected within the camp

For who?

I thought Justin rode well tonight ,

8 from 5 means he didn't even get his average, at home.

Palm Toft or Lasse Bjerre

8 points with 1 bonus points from 5 rides. What do you expect from your 2nd strings. JS is settling in nicely thank you.

That equated to a 6.4 average. Not great from a nearly 8 pointer who isn't even averaging 6 for the whole season.

That isn't a realistic assessment. You are comparing his present scores to the inflated average he started on. Many riders will not achieve their starting average for the same reason, on average each team will drop about 8 points from their combined starting averages.

I am not saying that there may not be better options out there but MPT didn't do much better tonight, 10 from six rides = 6.67 against Sedgmen's 6.4.

If David Howe is right that his average will be 4.80 after teams have done 4 home and away there will be lots of bargains out there. Let's hope the BSPA have more sense.
