Board Track Racing

I'd have loved to have seen this live, proper pioneer stuff. 100mph plus on tyres you wouldn't trust on a bicycle and clothing suitable for a brisk walk.

In fact gustix did a thread with the very same video that Vince has posted last year

This is an item from 1921 in regard to one of Board Track racing's legends 'Shrimp' Burns. I did check all the previous Links on this thread - and there are many of them - so hopefully I have not duplicated anything!

Hmm,not sure you checked that well.I even mentioned you had started a thread with Vince's video before. :P

Followers of this Board Racing thread will note that two items, although carrying different Links, are the same topic. As can be seen, both also carry different youtube titles which I followed without actually viewing the items.

My apologies for this happening and my thanks to those members who contacted me by PM to advise of the situation.

Interesting article in the recently published magazine 'Broadslide' which has an article about "Board Track Racing' in the States and how it was deemed too dangerous and a loose surface was soon adopted and, as they say, the rest is history!

That is most interesting steve roberts. One can assume that the transition mentioned was when Board Track Racing became Flat Track Racing? I assume the period written about was the VERY early 1920s?

Didn't happen like that though. Both were running side by side with the same riders. You could say that the closing of the Motordromes helped give Dirt track racing the dominance. But "loose surface was soon adopted" gives a totally false picture.Don Johns was winning on the dirt tracks about a decade before many of those Motordromes on gustix wiki link were even built

This youtube Link shows a replica of a 1914 Board Track racer.

The Poster clearly states 'replica' iris.

It is an example of the early days of Board Track Racing. I think it appropriate to Post something like that on this Thread - the bike is obviously a replica but is a good example of the Bikes used in those days.

What I am against is those Posting modern day BIKES and discussing modern day Board Tracking on these type of Threads. It spoils it for the history buffs like me. I learn a lot from these type of Threads.

This is a Historical Thread and as such, in my opinion, the Poster (gustix) has Posted it in the right place.

Don't worry - I would have complained if I though his Post inappropriate.

I hope you can see my point.

Then you cleary are just reacting to my posts because of who posted them as those posts are with the very same old or replica bikes........never mind eh ;)

Haha - I knew you would come back to me on that. :t::rofl:

I actually enjoy reading a lot of your Posts - but - every now and again you do Post to get a reaction. :t:

Go on - admit it. :)

Not in this case. You can see how it developed.Vince posted he would have loved to have seen Board Track racing.I posted some links to show him it is in a way still possible. That was my only thought, because i have posted similar things on another thread a few years ago.Must have not included gustix as it recieved no problems. In fact if you look gustix then found a similar link of modern Board track and posted that himself. Before possibly deciding i knew more about it,so then tried to stop that development. Now he has gone back and posted a bike that could well be used in one of those modern videos. There is no difference..........But yet again we will pick on iris123 instead of gustix :t:

My thoughts are that if I had placed the Post which is under debate in the thread Grasstrack, Sidecar, Short Track and Cycle Speedway, that iris123 would have found a reason to tell me I had placed it in the wrong thread.

There's a tendency, as I see it, for him to specialise in contradicting whatever I Post. Other threads on the BSF tend to highlight it - a study through Grasstrack, Sidecar, Short Track and Cycle Speedway may emphasise what I mean.

I would add also that sometimes one has an item which might well qualify for placing in one of two threads. The easy solution could be to place in both of them but TBH that would be ridiculous.

That error was indeed and sorted before you arrived on the scene - thanks to a person I recognise as an expert - DutchGrasstrack. He also managed to advise of the error in a dignified manner without trying to spark needless controversy in the matter.
