Dtra Championship Round 2. 13th & 14th May 2017

Round two of the DTRA Championship takes place at Peterborough showground as part of the Motorcycle News festival on 13th & 14th of May. Expecting it to be a full entry in almost all classes.

 

Not sure of timings for all the classes yet but do know that the Pro and Hooligan classes are racing from12:15 each day as the headline event on the Speedway track.

 

Speedway on the Saturday night as well with Newcastle the visitors so could make a good day out!

Maxxis 2017 UK Flat Track Championships Round Two

May13-14, MCN Festival of Motorcycling, Peterborough Arena

Round two of the 2017 UK Flat Track Championships put on by the DTRA (Dirt Track Riders Association) saw the series continue in spectacular fashion at the MCN Festival of Motorcycling at Peterborough Arena. Along with the DTRA regulars a group of guest Pro class racers including James Rispoli and Johnny Lewis from the USA, Australian speedway star Kevin Doolan and British Superbike racer Chris Walker.

Along with the second round of the UK race series the event also played host to round two of the 2017 Hooligan Championships. Together with a well-groomed track, large crowds and good weather the event delivered a classy weekend of flat track motorcycle racing.

In Saturday’s Pro Class it was a closely fought race with all the big names all heading into the first turn together. US stars Lewis and Rispoli led the charge with Britain’s Aidan Collins and Alan Birtwistle close behind. Rispoli came out ahead with Collins passing Lewis to move into second. It wasn’t long before the American reclaimed his second position and went after Rispoli. The pair fought closely with Lewis finding the gap in the latter part of the race to take the win. Rispoli took a well-deserved second with Collins holding off Birtwistle for third.

Lewis was on top form again in Saturday’s Hooligan class that was restarted following a crash. He led the way with Gary Inman second and Ross Sharp third. Out front Lewis rode a stylish race to take the win. Behind, a fast charging Ferran Mas Saenz moved through to take second, with Walker showing his skills transferred to the dirt as he moved through to take the final podium spot on the last lap.

Sunday’s Pro class once again saw Lewis, Rispoli, Collins and Birtwistle hit turn one together. Rispoli led the way after lap one with Lewis second and Collins third. The three pulled away from their competition with Lewis pressuring Rispoli the whole way. A small gap saw Lewis charge up the inside Rispoli once again as he went on for his third win of the weekend. Collins was also pressuring Rispoli but didn’t find the gap leaving him to settle for third as the American held strong for second.

It was all change in Sunday’s Hooligan class with several new entries and some sitting things out. Speedway star Doolan showed his pedigree on any bike as he got a flying start. Doolan stayed out of trouble up front to take the win. Behind, Walker was back on form as he rode to second, with Mas Saenz holding off fast charging Inman and Sharp for third.

Once again it was the new guard of young riders who dominated in the Restricted class as Sky Adams got the better of her competition making it two for two in the series. Jon Bell rode well for second with Freddie Hales rounding out the podium.

Following overnight rain the Vintage class were delivered tough conditions but it didn’t slow down Gary Birtwistle. He got a flying start and pulled away from his competition for a classy win. Behind, Peter Jordan led Spain’s Ferran Mas Saenz, but it wasn’t long before the speedy Spaniard passed on the inside and went on to take second. David Webb moved through to take third.

After some closely fought heats the ever-competitive Thunderbike class saw a fast start with a large group all hitting turn one together. It was Holland’s Maikel Dijkstra who came ahead with Jon Bell second and Richard Rowden third. Dijkstra pulled away for the win with Bell and Rowden holding their positions for second and third respectively.

In the Rookie class Lee Sadler led the charge with Richard Gardiner hot on his heels in second. Martin Mills moved through the competition into third as he left turn two. Sadler rode a fast smooth race out front to take the win. Behind, Gardiner held position for second with Martin Mills holding off a fast charging Lucia Aucott for third.

The Minibike class was decided on heats points following time restrictions because of an earlier crash that caused delays. Neil Macqueen was awarded the win with Alfie Collett second and Andy Smith third.

The Youth Senior Class saw Joe Burden take the win with Archie May second. In the Youth Intermediates Ted Wilkinson got a flying start only to be taken by Jack Bell, who went on take the victory. Wilkinson held strong for second with Luke Gardner third. In the Youth Juniors Tom Hunt took the win with Maddie Banks riding herself into second and Charlie Kelly third.

Round three and four of the Maxxis 2017 UK Flat Track Championships will place at Greenfield Dirt Track on June 10-11.
