NATIONAL League racing returns to The Adrian Flux Arena on Wednesday as the King's Lynn Young Stars host reigning champions Birmingham (7.30).

The Young Stars will be looking for an improved performance on home shale after suffering a 61-29 defeat against Cradley on opening night.

Young Stars team manager, and temporary squad member, Scott Campos believes his side will be more relaxed at a venue they're used to and is anticipating an entertaining fixture against the Midlands outfit.

"Birmingham are a big club in this league and have won the title the last two years running," Campos said.

"Theyre looking a strong side once again this year and its going to be another tough test for the team.

"However, I think were in for some cracking racing and as long as the boys give it all their effort and enjoy it, then we cant ask for much more than that can we?"

KINGS LYNN: Josh Bailey, Lewis Whitmore R/R, Ryan Kinsley, Scott Campos, Danny Phillips, Connor Locke, Taylor Hampshire.

BIRMINGHAM: Tom Bacon, Chris Hay R/R, Darryl Ritchings, Jack Parkinson-Blackburn, Danyon Hume, Macauley Leek, Layne Cupitt.

I think R/R helps us in this instance, although it does mean Leek will have to take 4 rides and depends on how well Cupitt rides Lynn, but based on his performance at Perry Barr last week it's not the sort of away track I see him struggling at. Hopefully Jack has got his bike sorted out sufficiently as well.

Narrow Birmingham win.

Narrow Birmingham win.

Cupitt rode for Lynn for two years. He was hopeless for both of them, so i expect him to get double figures tonight.

without doubt r/r strengthens us hay would of scored 1 maybe 2 points tops.

r/r will score 4/5

which i think will be enough for us to get something out the meeting.

Big performance needed by Tom Bacon more for hes confidence than anything else a double figure score would be great. (8)

JPB hope hes bikes are sorted or OK as hes got 5 rides tonight possibly 6 if ht 15 (9)

Daryll carry on from last week bag in a steady 7/8 away from home (7)

Danyon just keep it up will go well again tonight (11)

cuppitt v busy night ahead possibly gonna have 7 rides so out in every other heat so meetings really hinges on him (10)

leek anything is a bonus hopefully he can get on the pace (1)

so by all that i make it 44-46 in brums favour ...

So all in all it should be a good tight exciting meeting and a safe trip to all that are going and a safe meeting for the riders..

I know people may disagree but i dont think i will be far off the biggest swing will be be in cuppitt can get the upper hand over hampshire as they will face each other 3 or 4 times i have assumed he will which is why hes total is so high..

Can Danyon/JPB have a R/R outing? both giving them six outings if in heat 15.

Birminghams r/r 1 above = PPJ 1 RIDE

2 below= leek /cuppit rides will be shared but likely to be extra 3 for cuppit

Kings Lynn R/R for lewis whitmore is

1 above =Kinsley 1 ride

2 below = locke and hampshire again 3 shared between them

Please anyone correct me if i am wrong

I have just checked out brummies last visit there and ironically Layne Cuppitt scored zero and i i have got him top scoring this evening hmm

although in fairness it was against 6 championship league riders 1 of which is premeirship and if Daryll can find some form and consistency i wouldn't be surprised to find him in a second tier number 7 bib this season..

He scored 7+1 on his last visit for the IOW back in August, which included two race wins.

Can see anything other than a Birmingham win. Far too much top end power with Bacon, Hume, Ritchings and JPB.

That said, the result is the least important aspect for me when it comes to the Young Stars. Just want to see progression in Kinsley and Hampshire and some confidence boosting wins for Bailey.

36-54 the end result here and a superb 18point max for JPB good to see him back to top form.

Danyon would of got a 12 point max also if hes engine didn't blow when in front ..

Cuppitt 11 from 6 was also a great effort looks like hes our diamond this season...

wouldn't be surprised if hay stayed injured for a bit as r/r is gonna pick up 4/5 points a meeting

Our boys were crawling out of the gates early meeting and falling so had no way of catching up. Racing got better as the track dried out and slickened off.

Well done to the Brummies and lovely to see our Brummie mates, noisy blimmin lot lol

I thought the crowd was pretty poor actually. Good job there was a few from Birmingham!

Think I've been to 80 to 90% of the Young Stars meeting since 2009 and that was the most abject performance I've seen. Probably harsh but that's how I felt watching the meeting and still feel this morning.

It's not the result, but the level of performance. At times we were miles off the pace. I know the track was tricky but Birmingham were miles ahead and truth is the score could have been worse.

Josh and Danny battled hard and Scott was his normal steady self and had two good races with Cupitt. More worryingly was how far Ryan and Taylor were off the pace. Taylor's score looks ok on paper but he was basically gifted points in most of his rides and hardly turning the bike at times. Connor put plenty of effort in but is still pretty raw.

Looks like Ryan has a Stars team suit made up so could be sharing the No 7 position with Josh. I know it's good to give your own assets a chance but he just isn't ready for that level yet.

On the positive side, JPB was simply superb. Made light of the tricky conditions early on and rode like someone with years more experience than he has. I said last night in my updates, that was the most impressive NL level performance I've seen since Robert Lambert rode for the Young Stars. He really does have a bright future in the sport.

Sounds like a slightly concerning night at Lynn in terms of team performances although Danny Phillips upturn must be considered a plus. Ive said often in the past that i am not a particular fan of Locke, Hampshire or Whitmore for various reasons and can see it being a long season for Young Stars followers. From updates & comments Hampshire clearly needs some setup tips & would think that Locke would be more prosperous running at the easier number 7 berth.

Probably the biggest concern would be Kinsley who was in great form over the winter and could do with rediscovering it quickly as only 2 heat wins at home will see this Lynn side become whipping boys if they are not careful.
