balderdash&piffle
he must have had his own shellfish reason for doing so... Just seen it, think In will leave it, looks more interesting. I remember trying to get him a temporary licence for Rymels Testimonial, it was only then that they realised he wasnt British, and had not been released by the Czech Authorities, damned nightmare getting them to agree
penchev
Most if not all tracks are working to a budget that is probably as good a reason as any that they don't do this. That doesnt make sense.................working to a budget so rather than have covers to save a meeting, they will put up with the financial burden of a rain off. Doesn't Rory Schlein race on a British ACU licence? Â Going back to the subject thread, once again Berwick were able to put a meeting on only -- to quote Ritchie Hawkins -- because they put down the covers during the day. Â Why, oh why don't other tracks do this? They are nearly all smaller, needing less covering material. Discuss. Lazy? cant be bothered with the time and effort to cover a track?
Gazc
Â That doesnt make sense.................working to a budget so rather than have covers to save a meeting, they will put up with the financial burden of a rain off. Â Makes perfect sense most are working to a budget and require cash flow. Â Purchasing covers would probably decimate cash flow so it is a catch 22. Â It is all about cash flow and juggling the finances for a lot off clubs from one week to the next i guess and covers are probably a luxury they cannot afford. Â Aplogies on the mish -mash in the reply im on my phone and have no idea what happened. Edited April 3, 2017 by Gazc
screm
Â Why, oh why don't other tracks do this? They are nearly all smaller, needing less covering material. Discuss. Â Not quite as easy as that though, many tracks don`t see to have as an accommodating land lord as Berwick though even the speedway club at Berwick have restrictions on when they can put covers down, for example had Berwick Rangers been at home last Saturday would the covers would the covering of the track happened. Many tracks have the GRA as land lords, what is their opinions on the covering of speedway tracks.

George Dodds
While it is commendable what Berwick do regarding covering the track the point is if it raining when the meeting is about to start it is just about certain these days that the riders will do everything they can NOT to ride IMO .This has been proven many times in recent seasons, there is no meetings run in wet conditions nowadays. To be fair to the Berwick and Ipswich riders there was a very heavy shower just as the covers came off on Saturday and the track was very wet to start with but didn't hear mutterings about anyone not prepared to ride and there was some good racing from riders on both sides.

Fromafar
yupThat was the only point I was making ,the riders don't won't to ride if it continues to rain nowadays,I have been a regular at Berwick in the last 50 years and it is only Really Since the bikes got to powerful and they needed slick tracks the meetings have not been run in wet conditions I sure there are plenty older fans like myself who seen speedway on wet tracks,Berwick was one of the tracks that held up well in wet conditions compared to a lot of other I have visited.Nowadays if rain is falling we have the big chat at the pit gate before the ref cancels the meeting.IMO that is the downside of track covers. No way am I criticising the Promotions efforts but the riders rule the day not the ref. Lazy? cant be bothered with the time and effort to cover a track? Not true. Difficulty is when to actually put them down and save the meeting. The main reason is not enough volunteers to drop everything and lay the sheets down. If the meeting is off, who is still there to take sheets off. Track workers are like gold.
