Glasgow Tigers V Scunthorpe Scorpions . Championship League Sat 1st April 2017 At 7 P.m.

It is. Best in the country by far (although it may have a serious challenger...

I would say it is one of the best but as with every track it has ordinary meetings also.

One meeting and Glasgow track getting slated.

One thing for sure the owners will do all they can to make the track better.

As much as I enjoy a little Glasgow bashing they are doing things right.

On another note how was the crowd compared to last season?

Hard to say on crowd levels but it was pretty full in most areas wether it was larger than a Sunday is hard to say probably slightly up but it was a positive start.

Well apart from the usual negativity we seem to get these days.

Auty is a very average speedway rider who is obviously very entertaining at home but will always be unreliable away.

Auty was heading in the right direction until he got forced out of the EL and got injured. Since then he seems to have settled down as a 7.xx rider. I guess some riders get to a point that they realise being World Champion isn't going to happen for them and start to settle.

You are so right and Richie Worrall is the same been skanked twice now by the rules and this has hindered him too.

I thought that last night was a cracking meeting, was good that the meeting was close throughout and it was a good atmosphere, only concern was I felt the team didn't click too well, but it's early days and I feel we can move this forward. Lots of new faces there yesterday too, but some people at the club need to stop moaning at each and everything that happens, I swear there are some adults who just go to moan, grow up Lol, moaning about pits being closed, moaning about volunteers, I mean sometimes they don't even look into the bigger picture and see how hard it is to run events like this.

Crowd was very good last night

I was actually a bit concerned regarding the crowd levels last night. The area where I stand was certainly more sparse than usual and that's quite near the tapes on the home straight and the back straight didn't look too well populated to me either. I would have expected a failrly large attendance, this being the first Championship meeting and considering the publicity/promotion that would have gone into it.

The 50/50 draw is usually a "kind of" indication of attendance figures and the winning amount was lower than usual.

I really hope the Promotion haven't shot themselves in the foot by changing to a Saturday night, although I did have my reservations when it was announced. It's early days though, and only time will tell.

On a different note........I did miss the "old" Tiger's antics (wonder why he's no longer there as he did such a good job?) and I thought Michael Max was a tad less enthusiastic in getting the crowd going than his "revitalized" performances of last year.

Wow so much passing tonight, think there may be more in the first two heats at the EWR tomorrow.

By all reports track prep affected by sustained rain through the week leading up to the meeting.

As for the EWR its a track that's let me down on my visits with processional follow my leader non-racing and added to that the viewing has been poor being far too low down. In my opinion a vastly over-rated track that simply hasn't delivered when I've visited and why I've no great wish to return there.

I wouldn't have bothered replying to that if you have seen the utter drivel he has posted since.

not to sound funny or to atgue but why not stand in the elevated areas? the veranda at the bar, the steps near the cafe, the seats opposite the start line, the stands are quite higher up than the red barriers

I thought the crowd was pretty good. The stand was very busy, the enclosures were packed and the back straight was busy but it is now much much bigger.

Good atmosphere and hopefully they get the track sorted next week. Hate to keep saying it, but it doesn't help having the tractors packing it for 10 mins either.

Good point Tony.

The bar/veranda wasn't there when I last visited, sounds like the place to be.

Cheers :)

not this year I'm afraid. It has been replaced by a clubhouse so no veranda. You could watch form the warmth of the inside on your next visit....................................whenever that will be. We are not backed by wealthy people so our stadia takes time to develop.

Your point about the viewing is poor as pre stock cars, we were viewing through open fence wire. Post stock cars, we now have the armco barriers and air fence.

While it was nice to get the first win on the board , the entertainment value on a chilly evening was virtually nil .

The experts have enlightened us to the fact that if there's a danger of rain , the track has to be as slick as that . I know nothing about track prep so I have to take that at face value , but I don't see any newcomers rushing back after watching 15 heats of follow the leader .

In saying that , i'm very satisfied at the form of our big three and i'm sure the other lads , in particularly Lunna , will fare better once they get a racers track to show their worth .

Better viewing in the Charlie Monk stand now they've added a tier and a nice new snack bar as well , new floodlights are cracking too . Has the plan for the big screen been shelved for now ? Or has that still to come ?

Brought someone new along on Saturday night but not a good match to bring her to. Basically 1 pass out of 15 races with little or no dirt on the track.

According to someone who used to work on the track the owners decided that a slick track will provide better races. A few of the riders weren't pleased with the conditions and apparently the track was ripped up at the start area about 45 minutes before the first race. Didn't look as if it made any difference coz there was nothing to rip or grade.

Was disappointed after all the build up in the papers and social media and this has to be the worst opening meeting in 8 years of coming to Glasgow.

Hope it gets better, it's the riders that should have the say on what kind of track they want.

We went to Glasgow speedway for the first time and I am sorry to have to say we were bored stiff. A friend wanted to come with us for a first experience of speedway but changed her mind at last minute. We are so glad she did. Meeting was not a good example for a newcomer and old ones at that, sorry. We will not be back again. We were on holiday but nothing about it except the scotch pies will be worth coming back for.

FFS it seems the boot is well and truely being put into us. One of the unintended consequences of endless positivity on social media is that it creates unrealistic expectations. We may be suffering from it, but lets please keep perspective here, it was only the first meeting of the year and whilst not a classic, not exactly a borefest either with Scunny keeping it interesting up to ht11.

I wasn't at Glasgow, so can't comment on actual state of track, or the racing.

However in their defence (and other tracks) it is general for early season meetings to produce less exciting racing, a combination of tracks settling down after winter work and weather which can be unpredictable at best leads to track curators giving a more solid track to ride on and these will get better as they get used and prepared over and over again.

To all those first timers, give it a chance and revisit in a couple of weeks or so!

It has been that way for a while now most seem to want to pick fault at anything Glasgow do.
