I'm thinking here of the sixties of course. I always liked the simple race jackets- Newport (obviously) with black and amber quarters , ditto the Bears with red and white. I think Oxford had blue and yellow quarters with a diagonal yellow stripe, Hackney with blue and red quarters with a gold diagonal strike. I think Exeter had green and white halves with a black falcon-and of course the great Cradley jacket of green and white halves with the bold CH. And don't forget the black and white Diamonds-really stood out Another one to me was the Sheffield Tigers of 1965 race jacket. Don't like the modern jackets one bit-this is also my view of modern football uniforms too!! Any thoughts on this.

Used to like race jackets and my favourites were the likes of Wenbley, Belle Vue, West Ham and dare to say the early 'Rebels' jacket of Oxford...of which I have a replica!

Is there anywhere now where you can buy replica racejackets.?

I got my 'Rebels' jacket from Peter Rout (Classic Race Jackets) and was very pleased with it!

Halifax and the Sheffield Tigers were my favourite race jackets.

As a youngster I couldn't understand the elephant emblem until I was told it was based upon the local regiment (The Dukes) in Halifax.

Does anybody remember the year when the Aces received their new bibs from the manufacturer only to find they had used a spade rather than a club. Remember a picture in Speedway Star of Cyril Maidment modelling it. Don't think they ever used them in matches.

Back to topic, one of my favourite jackets was the Walthamstow Wolves.

For me the classics are as already mentioned

From sixties & early seventies

Belle Vue

Wimbledon

Wembley

Cradley Heath

Coventry

Long Eaton

Newcastle

I had a collection of cards with dozens of these old race jackets which I sold when I sold my whole collection a few years ago

Of course as a Wimbledon fan i do think the Dons race jacket is up there with imo

Wembley

West Ham

Belle Vue

then i thought the Wolves race jacket around 1974 or 75 with the wolfs head with tongue hanging out was pretty good for a modern re-work and quite liked the Sconthorpe Saints one although it was a bit of a rip-off of Simon Templar's Saint

I'd also add Berwick and Workington from the 70s when they used to come to Plough Lane for the Division 2 riders championship etc

It was also a direct copy of the Sunderland 'Saints' Race Jacket of 1964.

Different colours I believe - but the basic design was the same.

My favourites are all from the late 60's/early 70's. Liked Belle Vue, Coventry, Exeter, Glasgow (in particular the stripes on the back), Poole, Halifax, Kings Kynn, but my favourites were Cradley (obviously) and West Ham. I thought the red and blue of the latter always stood out under the lights, with the iconic West Ham, London lettering. I notice the football clubs badge now also has added the London moniker.

I liked the Cradley Utd race jacket unique.

HaHa!!

No - I honestly didn't mean anything by commenting, other than to show that the 'Saint' motif had been used before.

The Sunderland Jacket was Red with a White 'Saint'.

My memory, not so reliable these days, tells me that the Scunthorpe Jacket was Light Blue with a White 'Saint'?

Just for my own interest (and sanity) can anyone confirm that please?

I think that's right if memory serves.
