Apollo
What should happen now is this group should encourage all various Facebook support pages to unify . This acts as evidence and groundswell . They then need to leave it to the experts in regards to setting up cic charities on the site . They then need to get hold of Paul Edieb of sporting assetts based in London to arrange a business plan / funding streams for the project . Whilst also encouraging local sports / social enterprise engagement .. This then needs to be presented to bob price , with sufficient evidence and sustainable plans . steve roberts
Good article in the Speedy Star confirming the interest in re-opening Oxford and utilising the stadium for Speedway, Greyhounds, Go-Karts plus several indoor activities/clubs inc. boxing, dancing etc etc. Shame that they got rid of the snooker as I used to play there quite often. Odds On
poole keith, on 05 Mar 2017 - 3:58 PM, said:i say again rob there arent enough dogs these days for both tracks spot on Keith. Swindon are already desperate for dogs, they lost big kennels when Towcester opened....if anybody thinks that a new stadium will be built in Swindon any time soon then they need a reality check!
Guest
I have very fond memories of Oxford speedway going back to their entry to National League Division Three in 1949. But I do have concerns as to the viability/profitability of a revamped stadium if there is no return by greyhound racing. Would it be a profitable venture to have a season only sport like speedway? Additionally, with a potential attendance of circa 800 on, as speedway appears these days, not every week during the season? I will be accused in some quarters of trying to put a dampener on the revival - far be it. But sadly when there is talk of revivals there is a tendency to look at ventures through rose-tinted spectacles. Good luck if speedway does return to Cowley Stadium but it is essential to have a good plan prepared to ensure a success for a speedway come-back there. ::: A look back to the speedway days at Oxford thanks to the Defunct Speedway Tracks website: http://www.defunctspeedway.co.uk/oxford.htm Edited July 10, 2017 by Guest
