When London Had Speedway

What is this supposed to mean and does it have any relevance to speedway in London?

A bit of banter which you know nothing about.

That is why i was asking for an explanation.Doubt i am the only one confused.I'd bet gustix has no idea what your banter is about either

I presume you are referring to the carton diagrams you sent over in the initial Post? Otherwise I am just confused at your Posts - sorry Sidney the robin. The trouble is the images do not appear to transfer when one makes a quote of a Post that contains them!

Have you not got anymore input on the subject?shame we can always learn a thing or to off of you.

No.Honestly, you have posted these boxes a few times in comments and i have no idea what they are supposed to mean.

my input,is that of course it is a sad state of affairs that we no longer have speedway in the capital. So many great tracks lost and so many fans lost to the sport. As i posted somewhere else,it was possible back in 1928 to get to 3 meetings on a Bank Holiday just in London.Think in all there might have been as many as 6 on the one day,but you would have missed some of them.Maybe could have seen a few heats at each meeting though. That was an amazing time and i would love to go back to one of those early days in a time machine.....

Of course, looking at the post-war situation, how many of the speedway tracks were actually controlled by the GRA? Obviously, the speedway decline has - certainly in some ways - mirrored the decline in dog racing...

Absolutely Steve. The total lack of alternative stadiums as one after another dog track was lost to development.Even the highly unlikely i know, chance of a football stadium was lost as the likes of Stamford Bridge were re-developed and the track was lost as the ends were squared up

My mum used to go FIVE nights a week - in London! Wimbledon (Monday), West Ham (Tuesday), New Cross (Wednesday), Wembley (Thursday), and Harringay (Friday).

Sigh...

..and it was a fairly convenient journey from London to Rayleigh on a Saturday with regular action on Sundays at Rye House.
