uk_martin
Whenever the fixtures come out, it's to late for me now, along with another fifteen people (I made a mistake in my original posting when I said twenty, as five have informed me that they've lost all interest in speedway), as the fixtures I'm involved in compiling have a 7.30pm deadline tomorrow. The BSPA should write a book - "How to Alienate Fans and Infuriate People"
mac101
Even when they do put the fixtures out they change them within weeks

That's not good. For years I have read (and admired and liked) your posts about NL speedway in general and King's Lynn NL Speedway in particular. Losing someone of your passion is disastrous and I genuinely hope that you can find a way round so you can continue to attend. It really is a poor show that NL fixtures can't be publicised more than 4 weeks before the start of the season. pine490
At this rate, my Stroke Association charity project (the first post in this thread) is likely to prove more problematical than I first thought. Here's me thinking I only had the unpredictable weather to contend with. David https://speedwayprogrammes.wordpress.com

David https://speedwayprogrammes.wordpress.com Please don't look at the national league as the same all the way through. Some clubs, Cradley,Mildenhall,Birmingham & others are able to stick to the fixtures quite well. I admit some don't.
uk_martin
Happened last year with Eastbourne. Fixtures showed Stoke on Saturday and Buxton on Sunday = for Eagles' supporters an hotel and maybe a weekend away. Changed before the ink was hardly dry on the list. Not much fun if you book a Travelodge or a Premier Inn room only to find that you can't get a refund when the booking becomes useless...but what do speedway promoters care about such things? Mimmo
Over the years, I've lost quite a lot of money on hotel/motel bookings. But as mac101 says, it's better to pay a couple of pounds extra at Travelodge & Premier Inn to get the flexi-rate so you don't lose the money, which I now do. You're buggered if you've booked a hotel though, because sometimes, particularly at Stoke, the motels fill up very quickly in school holidays, due to its close proximity to Alton Towers. Even with motels you can't always cancel in time. There was a situation at Leicester last year, where I had family members at the Grand Central Railway, which is a stones throw from Beaumont Park, and it had been chucking it down through Friday night and non-stop all day on the Saturday, yet the speedway postponement wasn't announced until around 4.00pm time. So flexi-rate is of no help then. But yes, 9 times out of 10, what mac101 says is the best option.
tocha
I know this is rather frustrating but last year's fixture list wasn't announced until 11th February.

uk_martin
I've just done an enquiry, on the Travelodge web site, for a Saturday night room in Glasgow during the season. the results are: Flexible rate + Breakfast + WiFi Cancel up until noon on arrival date Total £ 155.25 Flexible rate Cancel up until noon on arrival date Total £ 144.00 Saver rate + Breakfast + WiFi Early booking rate (non-refundable) Total £ 112.25 Saver rate Early booking rate (non-refundable) Total £ 101.00 So basically the fact that the speedway promoters can't be trusted to abide by their fixtures will cost you £43 in "insurance" Alternatively, you take a calculated gamble that no more than 1 in 3 bookings will be screwed up, and you'd be better off with the Saver rates, and biting the bullet with bookings get wasted. A good test of how much faith and trust those who have to put their money where their mouths are, have in the Speedway system.
bruno
Why book so early anyway there's always somewhere to stay and if you have a car you can stay a few miles away
gazzac
Sure you'd find something cheaper and closer to the date on a site like Booking .com. Might be an alternative.
uk_martin
I've used Booking.com for about 5 years to book rooms all over the continent. Sometimes the Hotels in there give you free cancellations, sometimes not. Every hotel is free to set it's own terms and conditions, and the cheaper "no-frills" tarrifs are often non-refundable, even on this web site. Always check before you book.
