Pieman72
Pay view TV and Speedway are not compatible and Speedway has never been much of a spectacle on terrestrial TV. What we need is spectators, spectators, spectators. how will we get them......by cutting overheads revitalising the entrtainment value of racing and charging realistic admission prices. I'm afraid in it's current form game over.
stevebrum
With today's announcement about the demise of Coventry Bees, where does this now leave the sport? I read that the SkySports contract requires 8 competing teams. Well the BSPA's actions now make that contract teetering on the edge, doesn't it? So if one more club folds and Sky walk away from the contract, and the teams get no coverage and sponsorship money from Sky, what will be the domino effect from this on the rest of the teams in the top leagues? We had 9 teams, we now have 8 so no issue.
Grachan
I don't know if Sky are showing league speedway this year, but they probably had a contract to show "Elite League Speedway" - and the BSPA have ensured that the Elite League no longer exists. So if Sky want a get-out they probably have one right there.

Just ignore UK Steve, as he usually only makes appearances when there appears/might be bad news about. He just a doom merchant with his head in Polish speedway.

StevePark
"Up the Pole" was also a 1970's game!! A cross between "Kerplunk" "Hang on Harvey" "Marble Run" and "Jenga" It was also a BBC radio comedy (1940's, so Tsunami will remember it ) with Jimmy Jewel and Ben Warriss. The premise of Up the Pole was that Jewel and Warriss were the proprietors of an Arctic trading post. Each episode included a musical interlude, sometimes including a young Julie Andrews. steve roberts
Rather ironic considering it was the then Promotion at Coventry that caused the closure of Blackbird Road back in 1983! Interesting article in the latest 'Backtrack' magazine in which Martin Rogers gives an insight regarding Coventry and Leicester back then and now. Gemini
Any little snippets please as I don't have this magazine? I must admit I was always sceptical about Martin not knowing anything because the last meeting was quite weird as it just fizzled out without any of the usual 'Goodbye's ~ see you next season' or fun and games that used to go on back then. However, he insists that he didn't know and the decision came out of the blue so I have to believe him.

However, he insists that he didn't know and the decision came out of the blue so I have to believe him. Basically it was in the form of a question and answer forum...very interesting. In a nut shell Martin comments that he and Charles Ochiltree weren't really on speaking terms after November 1983 when the plug was pulled on Blackbird Road when in the article the question was put whether a track share may have been an option back then with Leicester operating at Brandon. It was never discussed as Martin was investigating other options at the time. I was never a great fan of Martin as I was at the meeting at King's Lynn (when he took over) when he refused 'The Cheetahs' a victory parade after they had pulled off a momentous win...something he comments upon in another feature in the magazine!
