iris123
Rather ironic considering it was the then Promotion at Coventry that caused the closure of Blackbird Road back in 1983! I hope you're not going to stir all this up again. It happened over 30 years ago and nothing at all to do with any promotions at Coventry since then but Midland Sports Stadiums, of which Charles Ochiltree was only ONE member. ...and I'm sure that Martin Rogers hasn't fond memories from back then! It's by 'harking back' that we are able to move forward...learning from the past and mistakes made. Your comments have nothing to do with learning anything from the past.Just trying to dig up some dirt and as Gemini said, has absolutely nothing to do with todays situation

Just a passing reference that was discussed by Martin Rogers in a recent edition of the 'Backtrack' magazine when he was discussing his promoting days at Leicester and the events that led to its closure. it was your comment about 'harking back to the past' which I further commented upon which I took to be a general reference on your part and nothing to do with speedway? PS Charles Ochiltree was Managing Director of Midland Sports Stadiums just for the record. Edited January 30, 2017 by steve roberts

Danny Connor
So 9 teams are running now. Is there any actual truth in this thread title. I've been on this forum for 2 months now and it's constant gossip. I don't think a single scare mongering rumour has come true. Why does nobody ever get called out on it. If they don't get made an example of then it will just keep happening right? False rumours from people" in the know" . False facts, false people I never know now what is fact and what is rumour. The bspa website and speedway star are the only reliable sources right?

Yes some thought neither Coventry , Leicester or Belle Vue would run , they were wrong ........thankfully . It always gets a bit silly during the close season on here , I wouldn't get too worked up about it .

You appear to have read something into it that wasn't there, thinking it was a rumour. It's rarely the people posting things that are starting rumours, it the people who read what they want to read and not what has been written,

Danny Connor
Horton running leicester was 1. 3 nights ago that rumour started from somewhere even the time this thread was made leicester and belle vue had been announced as starters. but somebody still thinks there was only 5 teams starting! we knew from the beginning of this last month that leicester and belle vue were running. i click on this link! Where is the evidence that sky are thinking about not running speedway. Not seen anything anywhere saying that! thats why i call it scare mongering because a post like this will start a rumour! But like Paulco said! Jokes on me for taking any posts on here too seriously`! its always negative rumours though! never positive 1s

Not seen anything anywhere saying that! thats why i call it scare mongering because a post like this will start a rumour! The agreement with Sky, is that there must be at least 8 teams in the top flight. Whilst there was uncertainty over Belle Vue, Leicester and Coventry (that would leave 6 if none came to the tapes in 2017), then there was uncertainty over Sky showing speedway in 2017. Thankfully, all uncertainty about Coventry and Leicester is now over (and hopefully Belle Vue too), so Sky will continue to show speedway in 2017. SteveLyric2
Not sure that any doubts over Sky coverage was much to do with number of teams (although it would have given them a good excuse) - its much more about trying to 'balance their books' after the footie deals and looking at minor sports coverage that doesn't attract decent audiences or major advertising, yet carries disproportionate costs!! Shale Searcher
I think Sky will dump British domestic speedway when the current deal ends.. None of the Sky dosh improved the product.. No major company seems to be interested in sponsoring the sport, only hope is for ITV or BT Sport picks it up, even a highlights package would do, and that would give the sport a bit of a boost..
Hawk127
Assuming Sky do not carry Eurosport and assuming Eurosport still cover Sweden and the Euro Championship, is it worth dropping Sky and instead getting BT TV and simply using NowTV for the odd occasion that speedway is on Sky? It does seem that the the sport is having fewer options as far as the wider audience is concerned perhaps when the deal with Sky ends could the world of two wheeled motor sports get together and come up with a 'Motors' type t v channel? I know it is sad but I did record all the Swedish matches and watched them over the last few months and it does help fill the gap and it is interesting listening to the comments knowing how the seasons for various riders eventually panned out. (I digress)

Jokes on me for taking any posts on here too seriously`! its always negative rumours though! never positive 1s So someone comes on here complaining about rumours and lies and then lies when asked for proof. Hortons name has been mentioned twice on this thread. Once by you and once in reference to if Coventry didnt run. When this thread was started BV and Leicester didn't have promoters announced. Someone asked what would happen if that remained the case. Yes it was a little OTT but lets not forget, at one time Coventry were fully announced and that fell through for a while. And other clubs over the years have been announced but it hasn't happened. So asking the question wasn't unfair. Someone has already explained the relevance of Sky and less than 8 teams. You have chosen to read the post in a negative way, that says more about you than the people posting.
