Humphrey Appleby
Also I recall Eric Boocock saying that they were used for a BLRC one year but proved ineffective as the track proved to be patchy due to leakages and water seeping underneath. You need to stack the shale in a pyramid-type shape... I'd have thought raised cricket-style covers with pitched roofs might be worth trying though. They'd have to be shaped so they fit together on the bends, and quite possibly collapsible as well, but I can't think it's beyond science to keep rain off a track. (of course that wouldn't help if it's raining at the time) Edited January 9, 2017 by steve roberts
Shale Searcher
I have often thought that there must be a liquid out there somewhere, that is a water proofer, which could be sprayed onto the track pre rain, then graded in at meeting time... moxey63
Sometimes a speedway fixture gets scrubbed... even when the weather is fine. I recall last year's Belle Vue opener and one scorching-hot Good Friday match against Wolves, also at Belle Vue. Perhaps it's the belief that we don't have competent people running the show that sometimes counts. Don't think my 5 litre jerry can would go very far. That would be my question too. I doubt if it would be allowed these day - always supposing you had enough petrol. I am sure you would be breaking Environmental Laws at the very least.
Blazeaway
I've actually spoken to Barry about him ever getting involved in speedway. A raised eyebrow and a little laugh were all I needed to hear. Alongside darts he has also transformed match fishing in this country with Fishomania.A competion which anyone can enter, win a qualifier and end up live on SKY for 5 hours! Belle Vue's opener got scratched because of a few primadonnas lead by Woffinden ,
BWitcher
Belle Vue's opener got scratched because of a few primadonnas lead by Woffinden , Of course. I guess Woffinden called off the following meeting too, caused the entire track to be relaid and for there to be a lengthy investigation into the faults of the contractors.
Gunner85
Hearn is Real promoter and is in sole charge....hence the success. I doubt the Bspa would let the reins go.
The White Knight
Hearn is Real promoter and is in sole charge....hence the success. I doubt the Bspa would let the reins go. But would letting go be in their best interests? It might be in Speedway's best interests - but crucially every Promoter has money in their business (their Track) so what incentive would there be for them 'letting go'? The "Barry Hearn type" would have to buy them out of course ..... He would only ever be interested in the World Championship, that's what he does, promotes the best not a league or owt ..... How about Richard Hearne - this being Speedway: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36N9CUhIG7s
