You could though ask if the opinion of someone who doesn't go to speedway any more is worth anything when it comes to who to choose to ride for a team.I'd say if supporters don't want him then why would he even bother to disagree? You'd hope promoters take more notice of fans who pay at the turnstiles rather than some Hot Rod fan,who is sponsored by Mason Wear

i have reasons why I don't go to speedway anymore. Included is the fact that I need public transport - and my nearest track is Rye House, at least 25 miles from where I live. A rather formidable venture for somebody my age. However, I used to manage to get to Wimbledon until their closure.

Regarding Hot Rod racing and the fact that I like it. Is that illegal? Are speedway followers banned from liking other motor sport?

Gustix i believe is a genuine former speedway supporter who,s knowledge goes back far more years than most of us ...so he is probably knocking on a bit. ..Modern attitudes and opinions have changed... and i believe i read, he is unable to get to meetings for whatever reason now days,,so this forum is probably his main contact with the sport,,I wish people would stop knocking him..He is still entitled to an opinion..

An interesting comment waco. There is indeed a valid reason for my non attendance anywhere. Age, distance and other things among them. Thank you.

For other Posters, they should do what I do. Don't use the IGNORE system because you still get an indication that a Post has been sent to you. Just use your own willpower and bypass messages from those you don't want to read.

There is a difference between posting sn opinion and posting a load of crap.

Then refrain from doing it!

I believe that when on long track duty James Shanes has to be at each track for Saturday practice, travelling by van would have to leave Thursday, so could lose a lot of weekend fixtures. I seem to remember Martin Knuckey had a serious injury towaeds the end of last season and predictions at the time were that he might not be fit for 2017 season start

Fact is i would class you more of a Hot Rod fan than a speedway one.You even put the sport dowm as often as you can and have now and again(recently i think as well) said your time with the sport was a waste. So i personally think your opinion is a lot less worth than someone who classes themselves as a speedway fan.Particularly those who actually attend rather than try to bring the sport down and clog up the forum with loads of what we used to politely call 'tosh'

Someone on the Premiership section has started a 'Feud thread' to take away the bickering and slightly pointless arguments away into its own thread. Does anybody think we ought to start one on the NL section, seems there could be a need here as well?

I suspect the bottom 7 will be desirable/in contention for team places as established NL riders so leaves the remainder contesting the available reserve berths?

(Disclaimer: the above is based solely on information i am aware of/has been posted at some point on this forum/or has been implanted in my brain by other means) if any of the above is incorrect please point out in the usual polite forum manner.

So how are you defining these 37 riders? Given there are the same number of teams as last year, where have these additionAl 37 riders come from? And would it not be a good thing if we did have an extra 37 riders? Have you included Steve Brum amongst them or what criteria have you used?

I haven't paid for a year's racing licence so am not eligible at this stage.

at least 6 have retired/taken time out of NL. (O Greenwood, Blacklock, Speight, Chessell, Knight, Campos)

Blacklock has had a change of plan and is riding in the Championship so possibly available for NL alsoL

Right then so strike Geary (signed), Cottham (unlikely to ride) & the bottom group who are likely in demand** it leave 3 groups.

Group 1 includes riders who featured in a 1-7 last season, some may struggle due to improved averages & others may struggle because they struggled at NL level.

Group 2 were included in NL teams but didn't maintain their place

Group 3 are these still riding? names that have been mentioned but dropped off the radar?

Group 1.

WARNING: This photo is from a July 1958 edition of 'Speedway Star & News'. It was taken at Southampton when England defeated Sweden 59-49 in a test match. The man in the centre - sharing the programme with Phil Bishop and Josef Kamper - is in fact the notorious gustix who, it is alleged, has belittled the National Development League in this thread. For the record, England won the match 59-49. If gustix made what is claimed by previous posters as a rare visit to a speedway just 59 years ago rather than go to a 'beloved' stock car track he may visit your track later this year.

Here is our John looking very young

Sorry i make so many interesting comments its hard to know which you are alluding to :D could you refresh my memory?

The one you made yesterday - as quoted above. It tends to reopen the whole debate - at least as I see it - in regard to riders placements for the 2017 season. Stand by for flak being fired at me from the usual quarters!
