Guest
This meeting at King's Lynn is thought to be the formula's first UK event. I am trying to establish what year this was. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82TaUYlrBOw&feature=youtu.be Edited December 26, 2016 by Guest
Vince
I think about 2005 Pete Boast started running meetings in the UK.

Guest
My 10-year-old eldest grandson saw the OP and he said of the first UK meeting: "It could have been King's Oak in 1928 because the pictures of the bikes we see from then show they're more like flat track racing than what are speedway bikes." Guest
This youtube item gives an idea of the bikes in action at the UK's 'first speedway' meeting on February 19 1928. Could the racing be considered - as suggested in the preceding Post - as Flat Track rather than dirt track/speedway? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmLhqavChDs Edited January 1, 2017 by Guest
Vince
Sort of I guess but Speedway changed pretty quickly into something nearer what we see today. What I do think is interesting is that I thought the first time I saw the F2 Speedway bikes that they were ridden very much like an old JAP or 2V Jawa which is the Speedway that many seem to feel was better than today (me not included). Yet some of the same people have seen and denounced F2 which just goes to show you can't please hardly any of the people at the same time!! And delving back further in time - to the 1950s! - does any member recall the Stock Bike races (I suppose something akin to Flat Track?) that took place at Belle Vue, Wimbledon and West Ham in the 1950s? I recall seeing some of the races at Wimbledon where speedway junior Pete Rogers -who has sadly passed away - was the top performer. Here's a photo of Pete at a California-in-England speedway reunion a couple of years ago. This photo of Pete Rogers was taken at the 2013 California-in-England Reunion.
