Clubs And Their Online Presence

So which clubs have the best online presence?

For me Glasgow and Ipswich seem to be the best two. The Ipswich website is spot on IMO. While Glasgow really do make the most of social media (Ipswich don't do a bad job either tbf). Glasgow even have an iPhone app!

If you can get things right and use the power of Social Media these days your giving yourself a good start .

Ipswich's website had a massive overhaul at the beginning of last season and its a big improvement on what we had before. Last season they did use Facebook and Twitter alot more keeping fans updated and informed on what was going on , with the amount of things you can do on social media now if you wanted to use all your resources it would almost be a full time job .

Sadly, there are far more bad speedway sites than good ones

After a while, people give up looking at the sites as they know nobody has bothered to update them or they are just being used to trot out the latest sound byte from the British Speedway Propaganda Association.

Surely every club must have something to say about something or other?

I can't think of an easier way of keeping a link with your supporters/customers than spending a few minutes uploading something to the club website.

And before somebody shouts what about Farcebook and Twatter - not all of us choose to use these companies.

Sadly, some of our promoters are either too busy, lack the imagination or can't be arsed to emulate their more imaginative colleagues.

Social Media

Premiership

Belle Vue - did some professional looking stuff last year but not enough of it.

Somerset - Churn out quite a bit, graphics aren't to my taste but they make an effort. Good use of interviews.

Wolves - Similar story to Somerset for me the #Wolfpack hash tag has sunk in.

The Rest nowhere Poole, Swindon, King's Lynn all surprisingly poor.

Championship:

Glasgow - I am too close to it to comment impartially but I think we do a good job. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram all covered well with news, photos and video. A web tv show and our own app with weather updates and Man of the Match features.

Ipswich - Were unlucky that their Facebook live show bombed but the setup looked good, content always looks smart and professional.

Berwick - Honourable mention to the Bandits who upped their game a lot last season although it's a bit sporadic.

National League

IOW - Tremendous both online and in the community, very impressive, working their socks off.

Honourable mentions to Birmingham, Eastbourne, Cradley and Lakeside.

I don't bother tracking websites much

I gave up looking at speedway websites when they became clones of each other....that and the ....."read more" ..... link WTF is that all about, if I didn't want to read it I wouldn't have gone to that page in the first blooming place :mad::mad::mad::mad:

That annoys me no end.

Those sites are also awful on mobile devices.

The Somerset website is pretty decent now, but the 'Graphics' on their FB page and videos look like some 6 year old cut out faces from a magazine and glued them into a colouring book...truly awful.

Agree Glasgow have gone very Professional online and advertising .Even on the approach to the Stadium there is plenty of Billboard display Tigers logo and information.Imo they have left no stone unturned to promote the sport in the city.Good luck to them in that respect.

Glasgow have quickly overtaken everyone with how they keep things uptodate.

http://www.apmedia.info/

"With professional quality websites starting at £300, you can't afford not to check us out."

That line says it all....

I'm sure APMEDIA can do better and far more expensive ones.

They have high spending powers but of course the rest should take heed of the best ones ....

I'm not sure spending power is the determining factor here. There are 19 clubs in the top two leagues, if they clubbed together they could get one professional site built and they pretty much employ someone on a full time basis to maintain the sites and manage all the social media aspects.

This is pretty much what they already do by using APMedia as main source.

Clubs wanting a more professional approach have moved away and done their own thing.

The sites for both Newcastle and Edinburgh are managed by a professional website company. Of course in the lean period off season, nothing much happens except announcing signings for the next season. As the webmaster and the managements have other things or business to deal, with other than speedway, one wonders what and how much fans expect to see on an off season website. As long as main issues such as confirmation they are running, the new team, new sponsors, and fixtures, one wonders what are they expected to contribute which critics would just say was unnecessary padding.

During the season, there is always things to put on, interviews, team news, results, etc, and that should be the main contribution of the website.

And in the close season we have the fans forums to air our hopes and fears for the new season usually at no cost. We have management, marketing and even riders chipping in all year round in our forum. To sum up; Websites for official news , announcements and results etc. Fans forums for us all to interact and have our say.
