Todays GP has been put back a coupleof hours because of heavy fog,but it looks like it will be hard to get a meeting!!!!!

http://medeu.com.kz/cameras/

Not many fans turned up,unless they are all in the bars keeping warm

Edit:Now it looks like the fog has cleared and they are working towards starting the meeting

That's a pain. Were told it was off so now wandering around the bars of downtown Almaty. Seemed like most of the stadium went away too. Looked like it was gong to be a great day. Here's to tomorrow then.

Ivanov looks to be out for the season as he needs surgery on this broken shoulder.

http://www.speedweek.com/eisspeedwaygp/news/105642/Daniil-Ivanov-braucht-Operation-Schulter-gebrochen.html

So it's Timo Kankunnen to replace Jimmy Olsen in Berlin, and Charly Ebner junior will replace Ivanov as it looks right now.

ASTANA EXPO FIM ICE SPEEDWAY GLADIATORS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

ROUND 5 SATURDAY (Russia unless stated)

Igor Kononov 15,

Dmitri Koltakov 14,

Dmitri Khomitsevich 13,

Dinar Valeev 12,

Franz Zorn (Austria) 11,

Gunther Bauer (Germany) 10,

Ove Ledstrom (Sweden) 9,

Harald Simon (Austria) 8,

Stefan Svensson (Sweden) 7,

Max Niedermaier (Germany) 6,

Vladimir Cheblakov (Kazakhstan) 3,

Niclas Svensson (Sweden) 2,

Pawel Nekrasov (res) (Kazakhstan) 2,

Denis Slepuchin (res) Kazakhstan) 0,

Danil Ivanov 0

There were no Semi Finals or a Final, due to the fog coming back even thicker than before apparently. Heat 20 scores stand.

From what I can gather, Ivanov punctured a front tyre which slung him off the bike. Reading the Speedweek article, they think he could be back for Heerenveen.

Riders having trouble with the snow.Simon had to sit 16 hours on the motorway because of strong snowfall.Drove 20km back on the wrong side just to get to a petrol station. Then police said they'd have to wait another 4 hours.Even when they got going again they could only crawl along at 30kph.Simon is the only rider travelling on his own with his bikes. The rest of the riders bikes and equipment are all on a lorry, also stuck in the same snow.......

Simon really likes to drive to remote places it seems. All the way to Blagoveshchensk (other side of Russia) a few years ago and now to Almaty, crazy trips :)

Swedish riders seem to have a problem as they have there national championship on Saturday.

Sunday. Originally saturday, but moved to sunday to give riders time to get back home from Almaty. This happened about a month ago. No problems for Finnish riders this year, we have our final on saturday.

Barring unforseen problems it has to be Krasnikov, probably with maximum points.

Oh,i did see a comment that there were more fans before the delay!! Wish you better luck tomorrow :t:

An enjoyable day on Sunday, albeit fine snow overnight in central Almaty continued throughout the day making the service bus journey to the stadium quite hairy and the stairs to the seats a bit risky. Crowd seemed about 75% of what it was on Saturday before the "abandonment" but a steady flow coming and going throughout the racing, probably meant actual figures were higher than was obvious. Atmosphere was great, especially when a Kazakh rider came onto the track and the locals were brilliant, sharing numerous bottles of spirits with us which somehow had evaded the" bag but not coat pocket" searches. Not that we were complaining. 5 riders shared the mid-morning flight back to Moscow with us on the Monday and seeing the hundreds of miles of pure whiteness on the landscape below, took the sensible choice.

Not the greatest of destinations for a holiday, unless you are into winter sports, but we were able to fit in the main tourist sights, 2 nights of culture at the Abay theatre (one night with a crowd of fans from Austria) and a party with one of the country’s top bands made for a memorable time. Whilst he had no chance of troubling the top boys Stefan Svensson was probably the most entertaining rider on the day battling for every point with his pass on Gunther Bauer very well measured and executed.
