Photography Restrictions At Meetings

Recommended Posts

By coincidence i saw this today.A drone that automatically follows someone.Could have one rider with whatever it follows or wonder if it would be possible(eventually surely)to have 4 following the 4 riders.

https://www.airdog.com/

Would be very interesting / hilarious to see especially with riders getting so close / crossing lines.

However on a serious note we all know that drones will eventually lead to a nasty accident somewhere its only a matter of time and sadly only then will the SCB/BSPA react. Same a tractors on the track at the same time as riders, totally banned after a nasty accident and yet it now occurs again at more meetings than not................

Tried and failed to find the links, but I have two cases where scheisse could seriously have hit the wall: 1) FIS alpine skiing world cup, a huge dron was actually "put" down just about 5 meters behind a skier due to malfunction. As close as it gets? Happened in the last two years. 2) A reporter of Lehtikuva in Finland (compare with Reuters around the world or the biggest news agency in your country) LOST a 15kg tv-level camera drone in the middle of Helsinki due to signal malfunction. 15kg's, signal lost in the air in the middle of the city...

I tried to say this in as many instances as I could have. It's an accident waiting to happen in motorsports.

A woman has died in what was a suspected Drone incident.Although the drone wasn't really the cause of death

But shows the security problems that could well be caused by their use

My brother lost his drone while fllming over the sea, whilst still in radio range without warning it turned away from the land and flew out to sea never to be seen aagin. Also tractors are supposed to carry a flashing yellow light when on track, though some don't....

I recall that one. I think it was a female downhiller, and it only just missed her back leg.

Be interested to hear if the couple in the car had any Police previous or interests in the prison.

Reading a list of crappiest gadgets 2016 I stumbled on GoPro Karma drones. One of them apparently fell to a baseball field and many of them just shut down in the air when they felt like it.

Using flash on the outside of the track is the domain of the truly amateur photographer who doesn't understand how to use their camera.

A lot of compact cameras will default to firing off the flash in low light. Just look at televised football matches with people in the stands.

Flash is only effective at reasonably close quarters.

So the requests at tracks for photographers to stop taking photos is usually down to the true amateur who just doesn't understand.

I have used flash on the inside of the track and you get reasonable results, but I never understood how the riders coped with it.

The outside of the track is probably an instinctive reaction with the red light.

Therefore anyone firing off a flash is not going to blind the rider, just distract them ( from the outside).

Focus tracking which sends out a red beam is a total no no as well.

The main problem is that most people don't know or understand photography.

And yes, I have taken photos at speedway for a long time, used to post up the link to the photos on this site.

It's been in the programme and on the website before. Pretty much standard practice at speedway and most sporting events. I have noticed they are pretty lenient with people taking videos with their I phones. Even to the point where one fan regularly takes footage in the VIP area in front of the powers that be. Regularly uploaded to Facebook and liked by the riders.

Yes indeed - an incredible amount of photos etc taken by supporters appears on Facebook in the season during and after matches.

Yeah yeah yeah, but none of the Wright flights were dangering the safety in a speedway meeting.

And on other news, watched a Youtube clip of drone racing in Dubai?, 250000dollars for the winning team, specially built track that looked AWESOME...

Taken from the Belle vue site:

In recent weeks we have received a number of queries regarding the policy on the use of cameras in the stadium.

Therefore, the purpose of this communication is to clarify the policy on cameras.

Except for mobile phones & small compact cameras used for personal and private use only, no still or video cameras capable of providing zoom or close range photography are permitted at the National Speedway Stadium unless the appropriate media accreditation is in place and permission has been provided by Belle Vue Speedway 2017 Ltd.

...interesting considering that many compact cameras now have installed terrific zoom qualities.

But surely that is covered by the 'no still or video cameras capable of providing zoom....'That will also cover compact cameras that provide zoom

Would be very difficult to police as I recall when I used to guide at an Art Gallery photography wasn't allowed but with all the devices now available it was very difficult to monitor and trying to differentiate between someone talking on a phone and/or taking a picture.

Some compact cameras one is able to utilise a zoom feature and it wouldn't be obvious to the layman.

Apologies for appearing pedantic but I'm a keen photographer...and have been for many a year.

No problem.Of course it is difficult to police, like many things. They hope by issuing a warning it will stop most and if you get caught you could well be kicked out with no money back.It is the same at places like the Semper pera where you are allowed to take phtos if you pay a fee.Now of course people with mobiles etc can take a chance of not paying the fee or others take the chance that it is hard to police and they might not get checked.....

...I used a camera at Milton Keynes once (when I shouldn't have) hoping not to get caught...unfortunately the images I took didn't measure up to the risk involved!

As a matter of interest (?) my uncle is visiting next week and he used to be the track photographer at Cowley!
