Still doesn't make it right that the Team that wins the League over a whole Season then has to then go out and win it again right at the end of the Season when some of their foreign Riders have gone home.

I agree. Keep the league winners as 'The Champions' and have the playoffs as a separate trophy (say the BSPA Shield) - you could even have the Championship winners / runners up taking part as well to spice it up and generate extra gate money for them.

.........The reality is that the vast majority of UK tracks are too small and/or narrow to produce genuine top class racing...................

Costa Mesa and Fast Fridays are tiny tracks. On the few occasions I have visited these venues, I have never had cause to complain about the quality of entertainment on offer.

Mind you the Yanks know how to put on a show!!

You never went to the craven shield in the el or the jack young in the premier league ? no one cares about play offs that don't include the league title up for grabs ,.. clubs never made money they lost money hence why we don't have them any more .

It's been explained a number of times .

Then let's try to get Sky involved - say a £50k winner takes all. Marketing is the key to get anything like this going and to capture the public interest.

Perhaps because it's over in less than ten seconds that's the case in 70% of races. A majority of riders seem to accept that the positions at the end of lap one will be the result. Except for the few young guns or dyed in the wool racers are prepared to give it all in an attempt to gain a point ( or not run a last ). Are different better incentives needed? There are invariably not more than five races in a match where there is any passing or excitement. That old saying of first away wins is mostly true and will not easily attract new fans. Getting away from the start and not making a mistake makes it very difficult to be passed - that is a fact of modern speedway racing.

Track preparation - too many promoters still say they do the track prep to retain the home advantage. Too many tracks are still "trick tracks" and need a technique which riders visiting once a year do not attempt to master that technique. Away teams in many cases accept their fate and ride accordingly, hoping at best to avoid a thrashing. Providing a track where the opposition can believe they have a real chance of winning is essential if you want new fans to return.

Couldn't agree more with you.

Theoretically team racing is just a façade whereby the individuals attempt to score the most points they can to boost their earnings. The team they ride for (or are riding for on that particular day) winning as a result of this is just a bi-product of the individuals efforts to earn the maximum they can. I accept there are examples whereby team mates assist each other in terms of set up advice etc but essentially the points money system does not introduce any jeopardy to the racing. If you gate you go because that's how you earn the most money, as I understand it. (notwithstanding appearance guarantees)

How about if instead of points money each heat had a monetary prize. For ease of numbers say £600 (some heats could have a higher prize value than others i.e heat 15). If a heat is drawn each team wins £300, if it's a heat win (4-2 or 5-1) the winning team gets £400 and £500 respectively the losers £200 or £100. At the end of the meeting each team shares their total prize fund split on whatever basis has been agreed.

So if you're in 2nd place and your team mate was last you'd be incentivised to assist your team mate to take 3rd place as that would add an extra £100 to your teams winnings.

It needs some refinement but with the added benefit that the promoters would know exactly how much would be paid out in total each meeting it's worth trialling at least.

You could also score matches based on heat wins so a match could end 5-3 (i.e. in a 15 heat match with 7 drawn heats) which appears much closer than say 50-40 to the casual viewer.

TURN the PLAY-OFFS into a Golden Sweepstake each promoter has to put £500 or £1000 into the pot a week before the season starts, the league playoff winners take the accumulated pot.

I like it!!! :t:B)

Not sure the Promoters will though............................. :o:blink:
