Tigerblade
Shawn Moran,Kelly Moran,Sean Wilson,Simon Stead,Andre Compton,Roman Matousek,Ricky Ashworth. My Tigers team is perhaps abit modern, only Shawn and Kelly make it from the British League era.I know Sean was also around from 86 to 88 but its from 1999 that he's included. Didn't include Reg or Doug as they were past their best when I really started to watch. A historical best Sheffield from 1960 onwards might be.... Shawn Moran,Arnold Haley,Reg Wilson,Doug Wyer,Jim Airey,Clive Featherby,Sean Wilson I thought they were still pretty damn competent in 1977 and 1978 but of course that is why I stated "Riders Who I Have Seen" on my own post, as Arnie Haley would - quite rightly - be considered by many as a favourite or a great, but I only ever saw him two or three times at the back end of 77, by which time he was in serious decline. steve roberts
Unfortunately any list of Oxford never really includes riders who rode at Cowley during their National League years...often over shadowed. My list would include Hunter, Yeates, Rumsey, Harrison, Shields, Askew, Perks, Ackroyd.

Steve, mine had Mick Fletcher Favourite NL team (remember I was only really a fan from 1980, bit too young to remember to have 'favourites' from before then): 1. Dave Perks 2. Mick Fletcher 3. Derek Harrison 4. Nigel Sparshott 5. John Hack 6. Steve Crockett 7. Kevin Smart Best team: 1. Dave Perks 2. Derek Harrison 3. Martin Yeates 4. Les Rumsey 5. George Hunter 6. Colin Ackroyd 7. John Hack (8. Dave Shields) Of course, we had a very young Simon Cross as well... Indeed they were TB,but I only saw them ride on the handful of times when dad took me to Owlerton between 1977 and 79 so I didn't really appreciate them at the time perhaps. My real period is 1980 onwards,Doug had one more season with us and Reg had that bad crash against Birmingham,I don't think he was ever quite the same rider after that. He had a bad smash with Trevor Hedge and it knocked his confidence but, personally, I feel that after getting his wish to ride at one of his favourite tracks (Oxford) he lost enthusiasm when the uncertainty over Cowley forced the promotion to move to London. Mike Sampson (although strictly an Eastbourne rider) was instrumental in 'The Rebels' winning the league in 1977 replacing the injured Paul Gachet. Great system back in the seventies when there were promotional links with both leagues which enabled riders to cover when injuries and/or absences occurred. Hackney/ challenged for the helmet) /Oxford he was top class. My main memory of Dag was turning up at the Abbey at 7.15 for the Mike Keen meeting it was pi....g down with rain had been most of the day.I was convinced it was off in that meeting Dag cruised to a 15 point maximum(did he not practice on iced Lakes in Norway?) Steve agree with both of your Eastie sides and god that alltime 7 would never of been ever beaten at home a superb all-time top 7. Dag was probably the only rider who welcomed the rain prior to the 1974 World Final although I believe that the track had dried significantly before the start of the meeting (weren't some jet rocket propelled cars used to assist?) You're right in that Dag used to practice on frozen lakes as did Jan Andersen.
Sidney the robin
Dag only reached 1 World final which was unfortunate really i went to the European Final in 1974 he qualified. And i can remember the 74 final pretty well Mitch was superb and i can remember Bettsy reaching his only WF and riding with a broken collar bone scoring 6 points with a race win. mickthemuppet
I would think a team from Wembley would be a top contender with Freddie Williams. Ove Fundin, Tommy Price, Lionel van Praag, Brian Crutcher, Bill Kitchen, Split Waterman with Dave Jessup at number eight Or perhaps Ipswich with Tony Richardsson, Thomas Gollob, John and Chris Louis, Anders Michanek, Dennis Sigalos, and Mark Loran with Billy Sanders at number 8 Edited November 24, 2016 by mickthemuppet

I think I'd have Tony Davey in there too - the 75/76 championship winning sides were built around the rock of Louis/Sanders/Davey.
