Nobblytriers
... Â Another point I make is speedway was at it's height of fan base probably from the 60s and 70s. Do you think they advertised the sport on every street corner back than. Â ... Â Well, back in the late 60's early 70's, I remember that there were posters around the city of Leicester advertising speedway as "The Space Age Sport". There was a billboard near the Pork Pie island that was changed on a weekly basis advertising who was coming to ride at Blackbird Road. So in Leicester's case, yes, it was advertised a lot more than appears to be the case now. I did hear that DH had posters on buses but I didn't see one myself. Â I think that there are a huge amount of people who still don't know what speedway is, let alone know what it is but have never seen it live - and yet that's with all the coverage we have today! At my local garage the three young mechanics, all into motorsport, didn't have a clue what speedway is nor that it was back in Leicester at BP. Is that down to a lack of promotion and therefore awareness or that the younger generation have other things thrust upon them at an early age and stick with what they know? Â I feel that this sport needs promoting more than it is. The Sky money should have been put into building the sports identity and presence in the publics mind but seeing as most or all of that has now gone, effort should be made to pull in a major sponsor whilst we still have Sky covering meetings. If we loose TV coverage, a sponsor will be even harder to find.

The posters were changed each week to advertise the next team to visit ,and even included a list of half a dozen or so riders who would be appearing. How times change, not only have the posters disappeared , but quite often fans turn up to meetings without knowing who's in their team.
Shale Searcher
Arex their any decent cakes left in the Premiership cake shop? Or are we down to the "whoopsie" (ASDA speak for near sell by date) ones left....? Edited January 18, 2017 by Shale Searcher
Gemini
It's looking that way. They'll be okay if you eat them straightaway though.
Shale Searcher
Is their a list anywhere of riders that haven't got team places yet in the SGB Premiership League? Â I also mean a realistic list, not one that contains the likes of Greg Hancock, Emil, the Laguta Bros etc, etc....!!

Shale Searcher
Open for business again!! Â No new stock, trying to sell some freshly baked (old style cakes, been around for years, and still popular with one or two oldies) and trying some new cake recipes, untried, ingredients a bit of a guess, as is baking times.. Also, been abroad and have nabbed a box or two of European cakes (they sound good, look good on the shelves) but I have no idea if they are actually any good!! Mind, I'll stick a few extra pence on their price, because they are unheard of.... Edited January 29, 2017 by Shale Searcher
Dave Jones
I'm getting a little suspicious of these premiership cakes. I realise they all have different names, but I also know for a fact that two of them come from the same place.
Shale Searcher
So, what decent cakes are left that Leicester can try? And isn't there a new cake shop that only deals in foreign cakes, mostly new types of cake, that may or may not suit Tue UK pallet?
