So Birmingham's statement basically says that they've been allowed by the MC to include Carr once his average drops. So reading between the lines it is illegal but they've been given special permission to include him once his Championship average falls to 3.00 (but in reality he's hitting something like 1.70).

Drury may be a prick but I don't doubt his team management skills at all, his record speaks for itself

This. Many times over. Probably aid exactly what I think in a lot less words than I could.

Got to respect the bloke for always building a decent team.

So who will be signing Max Clegg, when his average drops ?, theres a real can of worms being opened up here.

To be quite frank its about time Birmingham were given something in their favour. Some may recall how we were not allowed to sign Richard Hall (I think) last year to replace the injured Zach. The MC decided that his current average was not applicable and applied an average of several years ago. At the time Birmingham did not make a song and dance about this decision, other than to say they did not understand it. We just got on with the job in hand.

The difference is the Hall signing was within the current rules (and needed no special MC permission) and should've been ratified. Maybe the MC are attempting to make up for their previously harsh ruling. I therefore await the NL co-ordinator to make a similar move towards the Isle of Wight after being harshly ruled out of signing Harland Cook.

The BSPA Management Committee will take ALL factors into account when treating each case on its own merits and deciding on the best interests of British Speedway, which usually means deciding against the wishes of the club you yourself support. Factors include the time of day, whether their wives shouted at them that morning, the windspeed and direction, how bright the sun is shining, the fall of the leaves in their teacups, a roll of the dice, and which tarot cards are laid out on the table in front of them.

If it's consistancey, competence and common sense that you're after, you're in the wrong sport ;-)

Another factor you forgot to mention was whether they were able to board a train at Rugby without buying a ticket in an attempt to fare dodge!! :P

The problem (as I see it) with all of this is not that they decide one way or another 'in the best interests of speedway'. For me the problem is that they do not EVER explain the decision. Any decision. That fact alone creates the perception that one club or another (usually the one you support.) is getting shafted. Perception is everything.

Quickest way to bankrupt the sport

Most clubs are paying more than they can afford just now so nothing different might bring them to there senses, the riders might also get a fright .Birmingham,Eastbourne,Lakeside Cradley paying silly money to junior riders. Edited by Fromafar

Yes explanations would help, but consistency would too.

But when a diligent train guard then catches them in the act then you've got something concrete to pin on them. Inconsistent decisions with a lack of explanations and a perception of favouritism isn't so easy to prove. They are the mafia of the sport. Everyone knows that they are as dodgy as hell but no-one has enough on them to stop them from carrying on and getting away with more of the same in the future.
