uk_martin
It was in the papers today that the deal to save Coventry stadium was in doubt again, with the landlords fetching the Police in. Belle Vue is anything but secure at the moment, so only in speedway can you take two clubs that are only 50-50 to operate at all and make up one team that is purported to be "sure" to run at both venues. What drugs are these people taking?
iris123
If you don't mind me saying...........................you are clutching at straws! Well this seems to confirm my thought that the Storm weren't getting good crowds and were on the verge of disappearing,so if there is a pooling of finances then maybe the project can stay afloat STORM CONCERNSWednesday September 07, 2016 COVENTRY promoter Mick Horton has stressed the clubs National League team needs to receive increased support in order to survive - as they prepare for Friday's double-header at Brandon. The City Gearboxes Storm have been top-four finishers in the last two years, although results in 2016 have not lived up to pre-season expectations. Attendances for Elite League matches at Brandon remain healthy but Horton says the National League crowds are currently not high enough to continue at that level. He underlines that the Storm is about trying to bring on the next generation of riders rather than being a money-maker but it does need to pay its way. What drugs are these people taking? You couldn't make it up! Either a team runs or it doesn't. This hotch potch approach solves no problems and just makes speedway look totally amateurish. Well this seems to confirm my thought that the Storm weren't getting good crowds and were on the verge of disappearing,so if there is a pooling of finances then maybe the project can stay afloat And where are these "pooled" finances going to come from? If you have two clubs who have no visible promoters, finances or venues, then your pool is going to be more of a puddle! Phil The Ace
The same 7 riders all the time........well, that would be a new innovation! So surely it will be the Belle Vue Colts? We've already been talking to riders so we are slightly prepared. It's extra meetings at Coventry and belle vue so I Ain't moaning. Just get on with it and enjoy the NL racing as it's really good

But it isn't a team! It's a collection of sundry riders with no connection to anywhere in particular. Speedway is meant to be tribal! This is turning into something the Liberal Democrats might dream up. So if it's a team, what is it going to be called?

Are you referring to the new promoter at Belle Vue Speedway? I know NL racing is good, as I've been watching for years. Maybe The Wanderers, like the old football team or the Globetrotters like the very successful Basketball team or maybe we just wait for the announcement?Doubt they are expecting you to turn up,so don't see why you worry so much about it all....... I worry about speedway and scenarios like this do not lessen my worry. We've already had an announcement:- http://www.speedwaygb.co/news.php?extend.31675 What do you expect that a further announcement will disclose? uk_martin
So we have a cobbled together BV / Cov team who in the worst case scenario could be homeless unless agreements to use the stadiums are secured, and there's this part time Swindon Sprockets team being mooted. Jumpers for goal posts, anyone?
iris123
What do you expect that a further announcement will disclose? Er,maybe your question about the name? The fixtures? The team line-up?Who is financing this? All questions you seemingly can't wait to be answered
Little Thumper
Interestingly on the Speedway GB site, you can go to the NL section and look at the list of clubs who will be competing in 2017. The Belle Vue and Coventry logos are snuggled up together nice and tight to show their new combined status. When you click onto the double-headed logo you are whisked away to Belle Vue's web page. So, in essence, this team is the Belle Vue Colts and Coventry are the junior partners. Er,maybe your question about the name? The fixtures? The team line-up?Who is financing this? All questions you seemingly can't wait to be answered Fair point! So will this announcement be tomorrow or will we have to wait for it along with the various other announcements that are in the queue? Little Thumper
Speedway I think you can do better than that! I have supported speedway for 50 years and hope to do so for a while longer. Do you honestly believe that a "solution" like this adds to the brand that is speedway? You could perhaps understand it, if the two promotions involved were next door neighbours. They're not. Coventry is the land of Ole Olsen and Manchester is the land of Peter Collins. We are like chalk and cheese. Unless there are genuine team rivalries what is the point? I'm sure I am missing something here, but who is this going to appeal to and is it likely to get more people coming through the gates? gazzac
Its a bit of a cop out? Either go 40 or 38. 39 seems a touch pointless (point-less geddit) I suppose it was the figure not to affend any one. I wanted 40, other's wanted 38, so we're all nearly happy! Still think set it now for 2 years, gives it continuity next year for team building before the next agm.

And I wouldn't mind but when you do go to the Belle Vue site, the last post is dated 4 November and there is nothing about this at all. If this joint venture is such a good idea, then it is a shame that somebody couldn't have posted something on the web page to tell us something about it or at least acknowledge the existence of this new equipe. AlanF
It's hardly the first time this has taken place. A few years back Scunthorpe and Sheffield shared a team and ran at both tracks. If both tracks are willing to do it and 7 young riders get a chance to race who wouldn't have done otherwise, then good luck to them. THE DEAN MACHINE
personally I find this team sharing another nail like doubling up/down , if I were a supporter of either team I wouldn't support this venture ,it just goes against the whole team sport principle and imo while this practice is allowed to go on we are just slipping to a sad end , but as I said its just my opinion and my opinion matters not Edited December 13, 2016 by THE DEAN MACHINE
