Most Successful Speedway Family Ever?

Even if you throw in Venus and Serena, the Collins brothers still have the edge. :D

(Seriously through, one brother as World No 1 and another brother as World No 2 is the clincher ;) )

All the best

Rob

Surely Jason with 3 wins and Phil with a 3rd,trumps that ;)

Actually I think even Maugers 3 long track titles added to his speedway titles is still behind Gerd and Eriks long track titles.

I think the Riss's win.

Also Hans Nielsen and brother ice rider Jens Henry Nielsen and world titles for Kelvin Tatum and brother Neville.

It has to be the Collins brothers. They served their country at all levels and their collective record and longevity is second to none.

It's bizarre logic to add together the titles, even when most of the family hasn't won a bean!

Otherwise, adding together World titles, the most successful family is the Nielsen family (22 FIM Gold Medals), even though brother Jens Henry never won anything, and as far as I know, the other two brothers never sat on a speedway bike!

Steve Roberts has it right. It the Collins brothers. Four of them were international riders, three were World Finalists (including a World No 1 and a World No 2), and several with very long and distinguished league careers. I think Neil has the record for most British appearances (well over a thousand), and Les is second.

PS Unfortunately the Longtrack title is nowhere as worthy as it used to be. The growth in the Polish league saw all the top riders pull out of the longtrack. There's no top riders in it these days.

In the youtube video I linked to early on in this thread, it shows the 4 Collins brothers that formed 25% of a British Final one year - thats not a bad record in itself.

I think that happened twice in the 1980s.

All the best

Rob

EDIT: Just checked the years. There were four Collins brothers on display in both the '83 and '85 British Finals.

How is 1st and 3rd better than 1st and 2nd?

And PC has 10 FIM Gold Medals, compared to JC's 6.

All the best

That is poor.If the families were entered into the Olympics, those 3 golds and a bronze would place them higher than a gold and a silver.By your reckoning the Collins family are getting help from the Morton family or some others to gain thse 10 golds. It is like Brazil getting help from Columbia. If the Collins brothers wona pairs title together then ok,you can include it,or if the Collins family formed a World Cup team and won a medal, include it.Trouble is for the Crump/Street family they are at a disadvantage in your calculations because for Jason there wasn't a pairs title to compete for and for Street there wasn't an Australian team for most of his career. If we use anything other than individual titles it is quite possible for someone to gain a medal without scoring or hardly scoring, just because his team mates(not in his family) have performed great

So on individual titles it is the Crump/Street family or the Riss family followed by the Collins family
