Recommended Posts

Some riders are on a set fee per meeting.

There's more thats not than are..

I didn't know that I can't see that rider putting 100% in then that's definitely a bad idea

Terry Betts used to get a percentage of the gate money when he rode for King's Lynn. I'm sure there have been all sorts of deals struck with guarantees, signing on fees etc over the years but it's an area clouded in mystery and confidentially between promoters and riders although Malcolm Simmons, in his book, discussed it quite openly.

I did read/hear once somewhere that a certain rider was on £500 a point/heat win (can't remember which)...which seemed an extortionate amount of money in my opinion!

PK got £3000 to guest for Leicester he scored 3pts and looked like he wasn't interested in racing.

Riders who guest can often get a set fee.

Even when there was a wage cap certain riders were paid more.

I know this topic is about what makes a good team managers, but last night at the Garry Stead evening and Halifax reunion, having a long chat with Garry I was horrified to hear of a very successful and current team manager, who I DID have the upmost respect for. I am finding it very hard not to name and shame the person I am referring to. It makes my blood boil, with the person in question who promised to donate items for Garry's auction but never did. and lets be honest Garry is the nicest guy you could wish to meet. I hope the manager in question reads this - shame on you!

I had some great races with him and he was and still is one of the nicest riders I came across and it was a very sad day when he got badly hurt, maybe it would be right to name and shame the manager as it's a great cause for a top man.
