Gavan
Need to have a bit of everything. The best manager is Pete Adams in the elite league and by some way I would suggest. Got to be able to motivate riders in the right way , some need a cuddle and some need a bollocking, need to make the right tactical switch at the right time. It's not all about having the best 7 riders, but like football if the team manager isn't any good the riders won't perform for him. The best 1-7 last year was Poole then Belle Vue but neither won the league and Adams would have played a big part in that. I would say the 3 best are Adams , May and then maybe Rosco Edited November 6, 2016 by Gavan

Paulco
Passion , the ability to gee riders up who are having an off night , the tactical awareness to maximise the use of gate positions , t/r's etc .

steve roberts
The Combined efforts of John Berry and Ron Bagley took some beating. Â Trouble is today due to the rules there is very little that a Team Manager can do tactically but at least they can be a motivating force when required.
Paulco
anyone who isn't a Sheffield team manager Yes I remember putting a number 8 out against a t/r in a meeting against us
Lord Skid
Pete Adams and Colin Pratt, Pratty's Team talk was, if you need motivating to ride for Coventry, you shouldn't/won't be here.
steve roberts
Cyril Maidment, Team Manager of Wimbledon, once apparently missed a T/S opportunity that may well have swung the match and 'The Dons' ended up losing. When cornered by some irate fans after the meeting he dropped his trousers in the way of a response and everyone just cracked up with laughter and all was forgiven! Â Great character!
foamfence
You have to know your riders and how to work them, they have to understand that you make decisions for the team. I still remember one fairly prominent rider at Bradford who had done nothing all night and was about to be replaced, he turned to the manager and said "you're taking my living away," which was slightly ironic as he hadn't scored any points. THE DEAN MACHINE
I've rode for Pete Adams and I just don't get him , I know he is arguably the best but I just don't know why , I got more motivation from a good captain ,

Starman2006
Ask Middlo. Best manager in the league by a mile. Knows what to say and when to say it, as a rule just lets the boys get on with it, unless he needs to advise. No soapbox no ranting and raving. Ive only seen Neil raise his voice once.. steve roberts
Bernard Crapper knew how to get the best out of 'Wiggy'. He would just tell someone that he was rubbish in 'Wiggy's' ear shot and that was all the motivation that Simon required!

Ghosty
Neil Street!! :-) If you checked out the riders who rode for all the best team managers, & then check the greatest percentage of improvement per rider then I think Neil Street would come out on top. Neil had the eye to spot talent & then knew how to improve & develop that talent. Just a few names: Crump, Boyce, Wigg, Nicholls, Scolfield, NKI.
