East End Fan
Alfie is on the verge of big things at N.L. level and his inclusion in the Newcastle team will probably help. But it is a long way to Tyneside and the travelling may take its toll. But with not too many meetings at Lakeside, he'll most likely cope. Good luck to him
marko
This should certainly help the kid, I think he is currently on course to finish the best second string in the NL, although it will massively help having three strong heat leaders keeping him there. tocha
I believe I am right in thinking Newcastle will have priority over Alfie in the event of a fixture clash. That being the case he will miss the home match v Buxton on the 14th July in addition to Zach who will be riding for Swindon at Belle Vue. Possible fixture change wonder? East End Fan
A fixture change would make sense, but I doubt if The stadium has enough spare dates for that to happen. Over to Jon Cook !
TonyE
I thought we dropped down to National League to avoid scenarios like this. Edited July 6, 2017 by TonyE
waco
Losing Bowtell to the championship dates will weaken Lakeside as there is no way RR will cover his points tally with such weak reserves and second string taking 3 rides.,Hope it does not happen to often it could effect our play off chances..... liam
Congratulations to Zach on being crowned U19 champion. A star of the future, just a shame we won't get to see him with Lakeside much longer.

You can use guests. Plus there's barely any clashes tbh.
waco
Islander 15 Thanks for that, good to know ,did not think you can have guests for second strings
East End Fan
Guests are allowed to cover for a rider called up to ride for his senior team, so it would not be r/r for Bowtell.
cityrebel
Too many teams, not enough riders. I can't see things improving any time soon.
Alex2000
All this doubling up is a shambles. It is the last thing Lakeside need in their first season at NL to be losing a rising star who people want to see because of a clash with a higher-league club. so you are saying no doubling up so effectively locking the 'rising star' at one level not allowing them to progress in the sport. Although it can be a pain it is the only way riders will ever improve.
East End Fan
A13X200 is perfectly correct. In fact the doubling up system itself was introduced, as I understand it, to give rising stars the opportunity to try their skills in the upper league. There were rules in force that said that they could only do it for a max' of 2 years. Sadly, that rule did not last very long. I suspect that the promoters found it easier to get riders to double up rather than to uncover their "own" talent and that is why we have such a system as we have today.
Islander15
so you are saying no doubling up so effectively locking the 'rising star' at one level not allowing them to progress in the sport. Although it can be a pain it is the only way riders will ever improve. Agreed. In effective that scenario is exactly what happened with Greaves. The NL would break with uneven teams midseason if every time a heat leader moved up they couldn't continue.

In essence you are right , young riders should be allowed to progress, but Lakeside like most other clubs have had years, and years, and years of guests for all kinds of flimsy reasons some genuine, some not, and the fans are just about sick and tired of it. To put it another way round, Zak and Alfie are two of the most exciting riders in the team., if they are missing the entertainment value is diminished, and more and more people will get fed up and walk. Its that simple. Its been going on far too long.
Bagpuss
Sympathise with Lakeside over this but at the same time the whole idea of the NL should be to produce youngsters for the higher levels, this could be the opening that Bowtell needs to take his career on to the next level. Riders shouldn't be stopped from moving up but equally they shouldn't be forced out of the NL if they get a Championship spot. Look at Bowtell, he wouldn't cope with only Championship racing but without DU he wouldn't have been given a chance.
tocha
An even stronger case for moving this meeting is the fact that Max Clegg will be missing for Buxton as well.

If this was one example in isolation the fans woukd probably stand it but how long have fans been complaining about missing riders, guests and r/r and the promoters being deaf to their complaints? As I said before, nothing against Zach and Alfie but the bottom line is fans pay their money and are entitled to s full squad, not a parched up side sad on after season. It's one of the things killing the sport.
