teaboy279
The point is, we are the host club but can only get dates that are not already booked stock cars, bangers, drifting, etc. On top of that we already have Zak injured and as the rules stand at the moment Rye House have first call on Ben and Newcastle have first call on Alfie. It would be disastrous if we had to go into a meeting with a guest for Zak, and r/r for Alfie and Ben. you would have 2 guests and 1 rr, but your point is still valid
The Voice Of Reason
Woooo hang on a minute. Jon Cook chucked the towel in a few weeks before Zak was injured. What is he - psychic? And with our flexibility at home Fri/Sat nights plus Sun afternoons, we couldn't fit the KO Cup date(s)? What about the 2 dates that are showing in our fixture list as 'Reserved'......what is planned for them - in order for Lakeside to meet it's 'minimum of 14 meetings' quota as mentioned for Season Ticket Sales? East End Fan
When I think about it, a promise of a minimum of 14 meetings seems ridiculous. I come from the Old School of expecting something like 25 - 30 meetings a year. Now I know that those days are long gone, but only 14 ????? teaboy279
Just compare that to a properly ran club, and at Kent we have already had 15 home meetings this season (plus at least 1 rain off.) Ok the SDL meetings may have attracted only 200 or so fans BUT I still had something to do on that Monday night. The Voice Of Reason
Just compare that to a properly ran club, and at Kent we have already had 15 home meetings this season (plus at least 1 rain off.) Ok the SDL meetings may have attracted only 200 or so fans BUT I still had something to do on that Monday night. Importantly, those meetings keep the momentum going for supporters. Even back in the 70's and 80's, there were 3 and 4 Team Tournaments, Individual Events, Local Cups, etc. I don't really remember crowds at these Meetings taking too much of a hit - because it was a Friday Night, at 8 O'Clock......and nothing whatsoever came in the way of going to Hackney Speedway; and no doubt other supporters to their repsective tracks. As has been alluded to many times before, if people get out of a routine then it's quite easy for them to find other interests. So fair play to Kent - who by the end of July have delivered EIGHTEEN Home Meetings, compared to Lakeside's NINE. No doubt there will be more bleating by Jon Cook on low crowd numbers. Does it really take much logic to work out why?
marko
Oh my goodness, yeah you think back to a time when the old National League has 16-18 teams, you would at least one koc match, one round of a fours qualifier, a spring or Autumn triangle involving local teams but normally Hackney and Rye House, a pairs meeting, the huge supernational marathon (before promoters butchered individuals) if you had less than 22/23 home meetings in a season, you felt hard done by. cityrebel
Decent crowd again at rye tonight, plenty of (ex?) hammers fans in attendance. Let's hope some of them turn up tomorrow.

cityrebel
Poor meeting, one line out by the fence. Usual rye fare.
liam
I was going to give rye a try this season but I've not read good reports about the racing so couldn't really be bothered to do the drive.
TonyE
Spoke to some guys who were there last night - absolutely dire, a gater's paradise. At least Arena produces alternate racing lines.
cityrebel
Slick Mr Richter prepares a superb concrete bowl over there. It's just a shame they race speedway bikes on it!
waco
It is a shame they do not have a good track curator at Rye,s,,Since he has been gone the lads have done a good job at Lakeside despite there being less dirt than there was for Elite league racing which is understandable at this level,,
KevtheRev
Seen a few digs on twitter and now these messages having a pop at Rye House. Seems the negativity continues to grow at Lakeside I went yesterday and not the greatest track, but checkout You-Tube and see Heat 1 between Kennett and Harris! There were a few good heats. Facing a team that hadn't been beaten for 10 matches and lacking match fitness there was only going to be one winner. I'm pleased to say I'm enjoying my speedway. After the previous several years that is a god-send. It's a better stadium. There is much better viewing. The atmosphere is better. It is cheaper than last year. Maybe it's the better viewing but the racing is better. There is no contempt for fans - withholding information, making false promises or lying to fans. There is a sense of belonging and Steve Jensen seems a genuine guy.
cityrebel
Well I've been to every meeting at rye this season, and the majority of the races have been follow the leader, Chris Harris Being the exception to the rule. It must be as frustrating for the riders as it is for the fans having a one line track. Or maybe you are as star struck as the rest of the fans that think it's wonderful over there.
KevtheRev
Having been going to speedway since the 70's one thing I'm not is star struck about speedway in the UK. Ive been to all but one this season and I never said it was wonderful but It's better in every way than Lakeside.

Your stadium's a mess, your manager's a joke & your team!!! Who ever is advising you you need to not listen! Employ someone who knows what they are doing or lose your club

liam
If you're enjoying it at Rye and it's better than Lakeside then happy days Kev Iam pleased for you. I am enjoying myself watching Lakeside this year and I never thought I would be saying that as I was 100% dead against National League racing but it's much better than it was last time I saw it. Iam glad I gave it ago as Lakeside are my team and hopefully will be for a long time with or without Cook, I personally was going to give Rye ago but just couldn't go and support another team in the end.
