Somerset V Sheffield 27.10.16

Recommended Posts

Congratulations Somerset.

The best team over the two legs, and the best team won in the end.

The damage was done last night at Sheffield when Somerset took a lead back down to their place, and overall this season Somerset were the best visiting team at Sheffield this season.

And like SCB has said no many had Somerset to do so well this season, me included.

Well done to Somerset deserved winners

well done Sheffield deserved runners up

Very proud of our team (what was left of it), to get where we did on the rider resources we had was nothing short of amazing. To knock two very good teams as Glasgow and Newcastle really did take something.

We'll done Rebels, rightfully crowned Champions.

Was going tonight but 4 guests and r/r means I couldn't be bothered, went to the pub instead. Well done Somerset though

Why miss the last meeting of the season and grand finale just because of the use of guests?

Until riders are immune to being injured there is no other way to put evenly balanced teams on track.

The issue that would discourage me from attending would be teams forced to use N.L. guests to cover for riders in the main body because no facility is deemed to be available.

Can someone explain why Sheffield didn't run with same set up as Wednesday with RR for Stead giving more options or am I wrong. Or did Somerset print wrong team. Or did they give wrong team declaration. Seems strange with less choices ?

Because if you're having a guest at home you get +5% on the riders average, bringing Dimitri normal average of 6.91 to 7.26. So Robbo could guest for Berge in the first leg but not the second.

Memory playing tricks on you CB, lost by 15pts (53-38) on 12th August & by 18pts (54-36) on 9th September. On top of that Rebels have won the last two at Owlerton, 51-39 on 22nd September & the 2pts last night, with the only defeat at Owlerton, by 10pts (50-40), coming on 11th August.

Not saying for one minute it'll be a cruise for the Rebels, as I'm a pretty pessimistic person in this type of match, always think we're going to have a hard meeting & it makes it an all the better feeling when we get through it. If your coming down, have a safe journey & enjoy the match

My bad!! Read it somewhere and didn't bother to check the facts...

A very deserved victory for the Rebels, just glad that we kept it respectable for the first half of the meeting at least

And relax..... Thank you Gary and Debbie for delivering something special in 2016. As a few have said in the final threads, "everyone loves an underdog". Well that is exactly what we were at the start of the season. Well we're not underdogs now, are we? We're only the Premier League and League Cup champions. Forgive my smugness but I've just got home and still buzzing.

I am not going to offer Sheffield commiserations because I think they deserve more than that. Congratulations to Sheffield on being worthy opponents in the PL Grand Final and in being runners up. They certainly were no pushover and can exit 2016 with a lot of credit. Also, thank you to Kyle Howarth who was gracious in defeat and did a lap to applaude the Somerset supporters. It was very much appreciated.

I quite enjoy the closed season, seeing how teams shape up and what we all think of them. My real fear though is if the PL points limit is slashed which will screw up a great product for a short term gain. If that happens I fear that Speedway will disappear up its own backside. I for one doubt I'll pay £15 for a substandard product. I will pay a bit more for more of the same though.

I can start to read the 2017 threads now. Roll on 2017 (hopefully, points limit permitting).

Totally agree Kyle was brilliant and very gracious when interviewed top man and got a great reception when he did a lap of honour. Sheffield certainly gave it a go last night and deserved there runners up award in more ways than one. Great performance Sheffield.

Delighted for Somerset. A proper speedway club with management that can spot potential and improvement in riders.

Big up to Ronan who has shown some Ipswich fans the class he so obviously had and to BWD who many shied away from "taking a risk" with.

A lot of people in this sport didn't consider Somerset 'underdogs' and as results have proved they were a top team from seasons start.

What ever way you want to view the Premier league certain teams enjoy the doubling up/down facility and it needs addressing at the AGM if we are to see youngsters progress from the NL.

Having token 3 pointer in the team isn't the answer as they only score against each other in most cases.
