Glasgow V Newcastle Ko Cup Final 2nd Leg Tonight 24/10/16

Recommended Posts

As this match did not take place in either the EL or the SGP its not a priority to Speedway Star, one of the reasons I stopped buying it.

Forgot to say, Congrats to Glasgow, gutted the Diamonds did not win but maybe next year. Haven't been to Glasgow for a number of years as thought the place was a bit of a dump but after seeing the clips of Heat 13, the new owners have really done a lot with the place and it looks a great facility and race track. Will have to get myself up there next year. Once again, well done the Tigers. :t:

Glasgow is a cracking race track and facilities - well worth a visit ... enjoyed both visits this year .... despite the results ....

Not a printing expert - but possibly cover is all set up earlier - personally I wouldn't lose any sleep over it

I'm not , the Speedway Star's priorities are the EL and GP's and the weekend's crowning of Greg Hancock I assume takes up the front cover as I haven't bought it yet

To be fair I would expect the crowning of the world champion to be the main headline in the speedway star no matter what else was happening.

Gordon Bennett speedway supporters will moan about anything. We are the most denigrating about the sport we are supposed to love and the worst advertisement. I am sure there will be features on Glasgow and their story in the next few weeks/months.

Yes, I m sure the SS will give Glasgow decent coverage- and it will be well deserved.

Moving off topic, does anyone read the John Chaplin articles that seem to take up most of the off-season editions? I stopped years ago because it seemed to be the same few stories re-heated over and over again. I like the concept of getting into speedway history but the jolly japes of the great Haringay team of 1937* don't fascinate me really.

*or perhaps it was when there were 135,000 in Wembley every week for league meetings and Diddy David Hamilton did commentary sitting on an elephant (or was it a cheetah?). You know, the night in '38 when Lionel Van Praag scored a max for New Cross and an attempt was made to resolve the question of Czechoslovakia by means of a match race between Max Grosskreutz and Bluey Wilkinson?

What were the confirmed extent of Danny Ayres' injuries, after the trip to hospital? Nothing too serious I hope.

Broken wrist. Dislocated shoulder. The wrist is likely to heal quite quickly. The shoulder dislocation is likely to involve ligament damage that may well require surgery to repair, if not corrected may lead to repeated dislocations. I made similar comment upon hearing of Garcia's knee dislocation, and subsequent reports later mentioned concern with Fernando's knee ligaments, although it may well be more difficult to diagnose in Ayres' shoulder, even a CT scan may not show full extent of shoulder injury and actual extent may only be clear once opened up in surgery.

Obviously we would hope as little damage as possible or none in the long term, but that's the problem with shoulder dislocations. The likes of Bryan Robson the football player found that he suffered repeated dislocations that required surgery to correct, and ex-Tiger/Diamond Jesper Olsen found similarly and had to have surgery to correct.

According to those in the know in the East, there was bugger all wrong with Danny and he should have been granted his wish to continue riding.

Well of course, they would know far better than the medics and they would have been better able to interpret the xray of the wrist, and if it had been one of their riders with a broken wrist and dislocated shoulder they would have carried on. Simples!
