geepeeargh
I seem to recall Somerset benefiting from some useful guest appearances. How many of the guests we have had to call upon have out performed the riders they were replacing? Simon Stead's experience is hard to replace, and he's good for a points anywhere he goes. Jason Garrity was flying before his arm injury and European Champion Dmitri Berge was always good value so I think we would have finished the season better with our own assets rather than the guests we had available to us. Thanks to Stuart and Cameron for their efforts at Ashfield, but I believe Dmitri, Jason and Simon could have done even better.

ruffdiamond
If Sheffield go on to win the PL with a team of guests, which I hope they do, it will only highlight the situation regarding guests. It might then lead to changes being made, but probly won't Are guests from teams that have now been knocked out of the play-offs allowed ? screm
Somerset have been the best team all season and will be worthy Champions, but Sheffield have come through against all the odds at Newcastle the other week then again last night at Glasgow, dont be surprised if they come out on top against Somerset but my money is on the Rebels. Stead, Garrity and Berge are clearly stronger than Robson, Heeps and r/r (or adding Bates against Wells, Kerr, Branford and r/r in the semi). I don't like Playoffs and I don't like guests in Playoffs but Sheffield have NOT been strengthened by their guests. Having said that I'm certain Somerset will win the final.
bri1966
Bitter Newcastle fan alert!!! Not at all Just thinking of the the bigger picture for speedway .Too many guests , double points , slick tracks , people are giving up on speedway .Come on you Rebels I don't see how you can say Sheffield's original 1-7 would not have made the final. Gresham
Stopped going to watch the speedway after the main League fixtures were finished. Somerset won the league and Glasgow were second imo...end of. All these play offs, and so many guests recently, have really left a sour taste in my mouth. Not missing it one bit atm...Love watching the racing...but the formula really is a joke. If Sheffield win after being 20 points adrift...then it just goes to show how dire this sport has become. What newcomer or any future investor would take the sport seriously. No wonder crowds are down and clubs struggling. Such a shame.

Pogo1
Sheffields guests certainly improved there team last night, Berge scored 0 in the league fixture and I believe Garrity has an average of under 4 around Glasgow. But that's what speedway is all about unfortunately, could A Sissis be the difference in the KOC final .

You could just as easily argue that had Berge and Garrity been available the other night at Sheffield, they would have won by far more in that meeting. I know from a fan's point of view the play offs are a joke, but folk were giving up on the sport long before the play offs were brought in.

Somerset won the league and Glasgow were second imo...end of. Think you are wrong all the PL clubs knew the rules before the season started, the league winners are the team that win the play offs teams with missing riders can use RR or guests, are we only going to allow teams with seven riders of their own in the play offs, and what happens if one of the finalists gets a rider injured in the semi final, will they not be allowed to ride in the final

What newcomer or any future investor would take the sport seriously. No wonder crowds are down and clubs struggling. Such a shame. Never read such utter nonsense. If you hadn't noticed, the play-offs are an excellent money spinner, bringing in bumper crowds. Crowds are not "down" for the play-offs at all - quite the opposite. As for guests, they are part and parcel of the sport. For instance, Somerset won the regular fixture at Glasgow because of Bewley scoring a bundle at No 7. But suddenly you have a problem, because Sheffield use a couple of guests who didn't even score that much. Sheffield were weakened through guests, yet still won through, because of great performances from Sissis, Howarth and Bates - their own riders. ruffdiamond
Well, if it wasn't for the play-offs, the season would have been done and dusted ages ago, and lots of us would've been in bed
Fromafar
Well, if it wasn't for the play-offs, the season would have been done and dusted ages ago, and lots of us would've been in bed That is the major problem with play -offs it's a race to fit them all in .Everything should be done or dusted by now .This time of year is no help. The top teams are inevitably still in most of the competitions and find it difficult to arrange fixtures.Stricter timetables have to made regarding KO Cup and League Cup leaving the last few weeks free just for the play offs.Far too many free weeks for teams during Summer Months.
