Newcastle V Glasgow Kocup Final 1st Leg Sunday 23rd October 2016

Recommended Posts

Had a short shower about one hour ago and at times is still getting quite dark, but then the sun does keep trying to push through too.

About 1 mile from the track!

Raining again!

Any update just a out to set off

Still a few threatening rain clouds as well as some blue sky but not raining at the moment and the ground is starting to dry out again so fingers crossed, mind a note to all supporters wrap up warm as I think it will be arctic out on the terraces tonight!

Could be,not over yet IMO although Glasgow must be favourites.A decent reserve replacement for the "injured" Philips might be a good move.

Why not, we have become accustomed to outperforming guest reserves in the visiting corner.

Said it before but watching Lambert every week has been a pleasure, lawson and ritchie tryed to rough him up in tough first bends tonight but he gave as good as he got and they got nowhere near.... What a breathtaking talent and i just hope he dont rush things as he will be at the top for many a year barring injury.

Think u will find Glasgow fans cheered when our riders crashed also pal so please get ya facts right eh

correct.

Well what an anti-climax that was. Three hours of pain for Diamonds fans with the meeting pretty much over after heat 3 - which took an hour to get to. It was one of those nights where you hope there were no first timers there. Track looked like a ploughed field on the outside which clearly caused problems early on and probably did for Kus when he was forced into it defending against Rene. A series of other falls, mostly for Diamonds riders meant lengthy delay after lengthy delay. Was seriously losing the will to live by the end. I know there were lots of crashes tonight and the riders wellbeing is obviously the main priority but I still think Newcastle could brush up on the running of these meetings and get them done in much quicker times, particulalrly when it's freezing like tonight. For example there was obviously a lengthy delay after Matty's fall but we then have two more heats and another delay for track grading. Why not grade the track during the delay for the crash so we can just get on with it? At least we didn't have an interval - that would have been the final straw.

With no Kus the Diamonds were obviously up against it. What we certainly couldn't afford was an abject display from Palovaara. That's too often he's turned up with dud motors for my liking. The boy is a very good rider when he's gating well and has a decent bike under him, but turning up with poor equipment and then just seemingly going through the motions in a Cup final is not good enough. Thankfully Ashley Morris got stuck in big style to at least help us get a draw on the night despite an awful crash himself. Lots of luck for the Diamonds tonight and most of it bad but that's speedway. As it happens Glasgow were nothing special on the night with none of their top four looking particularly quick but with the Diamonds having so many problems they didn't really need to be.

With r/r for Kus tomorrow and the presence of Sissis at reserve I can't see anything other than a 50+/30+ home win in the second leg but you never know. Victor will certainly need to ride a hell of a lot better than tonight for us to have any chance.

Shame that such a good season ended in such circumstances. At least we protected that unbeaten home record. There's always next year.
