Leicester Lions 2017

So he is still charging fans top prices knowing the track is not good enough and may not be for awhile to produce decent racing.

Nothing new there as the track has rarely produced decent racing since Leicester opened. :D To be fair things definitely improved last season after bends 3/4 were altered so once it has settled down and the riders get used to the change to bends 1/2 the racing should be on a par to any other track, which probably means 5 or 6 good races out of 15.

I know its early days with the track alterations but in the two meetings I have been to I have not noticed any improvement in the racing. I sometimes wonder if the bad publicity about the track over the years has influenced the riders into believing that there is only one racing line and that, once they have bends 1 & 2 behind them on the first lap, then they just protect the position they have. I cannot remember may riders, other than Craig Cook, being prepared to try out different racing lines during a race. I fully expect Cook to be the new track record holder when next he visits Beaumont Park.

The problem is more with the track preparation than the new shape now.

It's gone really bumpy and ultra slick,

Seems a long time ago but in the early days both Hall and, while he was there, Mathieu Tresarrieu both rode the boards for wins when others wouldn't. Hall getting 17 once from 6 rides and not all from the gate. Sometimes when a rider attacked it the track did have more to give. All lot of the better times in the old prem were when the track was how the riders wanted it which didn't produce great racing but not everyone moaned seeing wins.

You're dead right. Hall and Tresarrieu both rode out wide and gave it some welly. I remember Charles Wright making a fantastic cut back from the 4th bend to go between opposition riders to a victory. Mr Sweetman won a few races after not hating as well.

Lasse Bjerre was never afraid to go wide and give it the beans either. With the changes it should be better but the track surface does look poor at the moment. I know there were problems getting the shale but surely there is more than just one supplier?

There aren't an abundance of suppliers no.

We are currently waiting shale from the Leicester quarry as they have had huge problems with it being to wet to mix.

Clearly it's taking time to get the shale in ridable state.

my first visit to Leicester last Saturday vs Somerset...... have to say the spectator viewing is second to none, just a shame about the track???? I wont be going again until it improves!? boring night's racing, i'm afraid.......having said that....I went to Birmingham on Wednesday and the track was as 'excellent' as ever, but there was only one race worth watching.......first out the gate...first to finish....in ALL heats!!! yawn yawn....roll on the Gp's !!!

Maybe when I went to Leicester for the Swindon match on 1st April (no I'm not joking) I saw something no one else has mentioned. Towards the end of the meeting, a few home riders were trying a very tight line into bend 1 not just in lap 1. It looked a bad line from I was standing, going down the straight very tight and turning extremely sharply into the corner. But what do I know? It proved quick and caught the leading rider totally by surprise. I think there is potential.

You are not wrong, it was Josh Bates who tried it first, he ended the night on 14 + 1 I think, the tight line into turn 1 and out of 2 is the new part of the track,

No Gem, I did not make it to any meetings last season and very few the season before, due to having a hole in my toe that went right down to the bone, it was touch and go if I was going to have my toe removed. As for this season, I can't do anything until it starts to get really warm, as the cold plays havoc with my toe and i would end up coming home early. With it costing me around £60 a meeting with admission and fuel cost to get there I am not prepared to waste the money.

What I see of thing so far this year it has been far worse than what we have had to put up with since the day things started up again, not only have we got a very watered down league, we have a team of riders, that can't even make it to the tapes on any given race night. We where told at the start that they would not be using any double up riders because of all the problems it causes with riders missing. So what did they do they got rid of 21 riders to be replaced by 2 double uppers. So now out of a team of 7 we have 5 that ride in the other leagues. Not a very good way to choose a team. So what happens on a given night when all 5 have to ride for their other clubs. 2 riders and 5 guests.

There was no thought put into this new league structure at all. Or should I say there has been very little thought put into looking into what rider races for which teams and sorting race nights to make sure that there are no clashes with the clubs.

This to me is one of the worst years that the B.P.S.A/S.C.B have managed to put together.

So as far as my grandson and I coming to BP this season, we will wait a while and see how things play out a bit. I for one can't afford to waste the money to come and watch a team of guest riders week in week out. At least they have a few weeks to get the shale brought in and get some put on the track as they have a few weeks before another home meeting.

I had great hopes at the start of this year with the new management, but I am beginning to have my doubts now.

No this is not just me having a gripe, this is me looking at things and facing a few hard facts. Get a team together, that you know will be the same 7 when you come to watch them bar injuries, then it may make a few fans want to come back, as things are going, there are quite a few who have had enough of it already, not just home supporters but quite a few away ones too.

Which was my whole point as I can't stand injustices ~ you've very rarely been to any matches for at least 2 years and haven't been this season so why the rude comments. The idiot who now sits on the tractor has not got a clue and he never will have. Where do they get them from. How do you know he hasn't a clue if you've never seen him? I think you'll find he is an experienced track curator but probably having to deal with a difficult situation at the moment regarding the shale available and alterations to bends 1/2 which will take time to bed in.

Go Gem!!!!

:D .......Can't stand people who say things they can't back up, especially when they're being downright rude, as I've been brought up to be conscientous.

that's very true robert72, but there are a 1 or 2 posters whose opinions are darn right rude to other posters opinions.
