Leicester Lions 2017

Recommended Posts

unless they seriously change the track shape the fans won't return whoever runs it.

Nothing seriously needs changing ~ just alter bends 1 and 2 like they did bends 3 and 4. The racing was noticeably better this season and could be improved even more if they do this.

My view is it still needs work on bends 3 and 4 and also 1 and 2 needs a lot of work but what do I know gem ?

Just read that Lakeside will not be racing in the top tier next year, I assume Rye House will take their place.

I imagine the BSPA will do all in their power to try and maintain Leicester's status as an elite league club

I hope Leicester think carefully as EL speedway is not what the fans want in the city.

Hmm... Elite League Speedway is actually exactly what I want in the City.

What I don't want, is this watered down product, in which Leicester alienate themselves from attracting the best riders and therefore limit their chances of ever having success. IF (and it's a big if), we did things the right way, made a genuinely competitive team in a better run league, I'd love the Lions to be an Elite League side.

It's What you want but not the majority of fans who want regular Saturday night speedway which would be in the premier league.

Sadly the Elite League is finished as a top league with top riders in it so it's time to take the right step for Leicester speedway and the fans and go premier league.

People make up this rumour from time to time. The attendances alone couldn't justify Rye moving up. Whilst they can race any night their attendances look best on Saturdays.

Leicester will remain in EL under new ownership with midweek racing in 2017. I know some fans want PL racing as Saturday nights but as they would be at the back of list there would have to be a number of midweek matches anyway

Good news is that confirmed?

LAKESIDE Hammers will not compete in the 2017 top flight as negotiations for an extension to the club's rental arrangement with the Arena Essex Raceway are still ongoing.

Consequently, the club cannot confirm its place in the League at the BSPA AGM as required by the sports rules and regulations.

Co-promoter, Jon Cook, said: "This doesn't mean the end of racing by any means as our talks are cordial and in line with every year's timescale.

“However, this year's early AGM and the need for us to look at more weekend dates to avoid the calamitous weekday tunnel toll and A13 road chaos that adversely affected a third of this year's fixtures means we need the right agreement for all parties.

"We understand this news will come as a huge shock to fans but our long term need for our own home, and our will to achieve that goal remain as strong as ever.

“Once we have details in place we will hold a public meeting to update fans as to our intentions for 2017 and beyond."

I hate to say that if they stay in the EL and go mid week then I will not be able to attend, I have to go with my grandson who acts as my career, need help when I go to the toilet etc, it can be prety hard work when you are in a wheelchair. Being 30 odd miles away if we stay to watch all the races, then it is gone 11p.m by the time we get home. With him having to get up for school the next day, then the only time we could come was when it was school hjolidays. Glad to hear though that the club will hopefully be put in good hands. You never know they may just be able to run a pl side on a Saturday as well. It would make a lot of sense to get the most out of the stadium, only problem being how many would you get to go and watch both leagues or would they just pick the one, as long as they managed an equeal amount of people turning up to watch they should be able to make it pay, that is unless the overheads where to much to cover the cost of people coming through the gate.

Mid week racing didn't work at Leicester as tried several times before but good luck to those who want to try and make mid week speedway work at Leicester.

I think it's a huge gamble to the future of Leicester speedway and its clear whoever is taking over hasn't done there homework.

Leicester has been a Saturday race night since the return of speedway to the City. when they have had to race mid week there has been insufficient notice for some people to make it to the meetings, with poor team performances also being the case, these two factors are the main reasons why there has been low attendance at the mid week meetings.

Now, despite what you may think, the homework has been done and clearly EL racing requires mid week fixtures. If a regular race night can be established together with a winning team then the crowds will return in their numbers.

Altering bends 1 & 2 will help provide good racing and I like you, wish the new promotion all the best for their team building and overall promotional ambitions.

The example given last time by David Hemsley was that a Monday fixture v Poole at the end of the 2015 season (I think) had a low attendance, so midweek speedway wouldn't work at Leicester.

What he failed to consider with that meeting, is that it was rearranged from the saturday prior to it (2 days notice), with a team full of guests against a very strong team (with little chance of Leicester succeeding in the meeting).

Don't think it can be said that midweek Speedway at Leicester won't work, without it being tried frequently for an extended period. It would actually be more convenient for myself (and a large number of people I know with an interest in the sport) as Cricket players are busy on a Saturday and always finish too late to get down to Beaumont Park.

There could still be some Saturday night meetings at the start of the season maybe two or three meetings subject to other clubs agreeing.

Riders just don't want to be riding at Leicester on a Saturday night then heading straight off to Stansted or Luton to get an 06:30am flight then a full day travelling and riding on a Sunday.

Midweek racing should also help with double up riders as less clashes than on Saturdays

There has been some talk EL incentives maybe these apply to Leicester to stay in the EL a couple more TV meetings and maybe riders being paid? That could do it.
