Shirl
Where did you get this info from W.W? I was wondering the same thing He pretty good at the weather forecasting but didn't realise he was an expert in civil engineering Unless he is a mole
Nobblytriers
Some news on the track alterations There are 3 big drains on the corner 1200 galls each. If the track is taken to far then the drains will need to be moved, also move lighting would be needed at an extra cost. What can happen is the same thing that was done at the other end, that is take it up to the drains, the fence can also go back another metre. If the straights are shortened the start gate will also have to be moved another extra cost. It all adds up to have we enough time or enough money to do anything other than what was done at the other end. It worked quit well at the other end so it should make quite a big difference when done. Can the fence go back another meter along the straights? If so, along with bringing the bends in, this would give the much needed wider entry into the corners to give the varied racing lines. If that's the plan, well done Damien Bates!!

Not unless you move the stands and some of the back straight terracing!
Big Al
Do our resident expert weather forecasters have any predictions for next Monday and the two weeks following? Will it be like the Somme again, or dry as a bone?

Try this site, it is usually quite accurate apart from on the actual day itself as they do not update it throughout the day. yr.no."location" ie yr.no.Leicester Edited February 16, 2017 by A ORLOV

The only way to widen the straights is to take it off the inside of the track. Massive job to widen it from the outside.
speedflash
Hi, Just to clear the thinking. We are meeting on the weekend to arrange what we are going to do with the track we have a few options. It will be a massive improvement . It is possible to move the fence on the back straight. Is this is worth it is to be decided as we are talking only 1meter. Glyn Edited February 16, 2017 by speedflash
flagrag
Glyn will there be a chance to get a big road blade on the track to level it all out ? I know quite a few riders over the last couple of years have suggested getting this done to make the base more consistent and level as well as making the home straight less downhill out of last bend. Hopefully the new promotion can make this happen as well as the shape changes Edited February 16, 2017 by flagrag
speedflash
Yes this will all be part of rebuilding the track.

That 1 meter is a bike width and must give another line into the bend 3 now that the corners are in. Great news about all the track work before the new season, looking forward to it! Shale Searcher
Do our resident expert weather forecasters have any predictions for next Monday and the two weeks following? Will it be like the Somme again, or dry as a bone? Well yes, we do....!! Somewhere in the UK on Monday could get a 16c or even a 17c!! We are starting to draw air from a much warmer area of the globe (North Africa) from the South West, it will remain above the seasonal norm right up until the 23rd/24th Feb, the odd night frost can't be ruled out though. Chance of a colder/cooler incursion around the 25th/26th Feb, but it will be brief with temps quickly recovering to around the seasonal norm or just above. Rainfall will remain lower than the seasonal norm...... Their you go!! 😎
speedibee
Not unless you move the stands and some of the back straight terracing! the stands on the start finish straight ,are only Temporary .they have probably sunk in a little since temporary became 6 years ,but a few volunterrs could most likely lift them up and push them back , then you could take the back straight in and front straight out ,

Happy Hunter
It is time consuming and maybe the promotion want to concentrate efforts in certain areas, such as website and social media. I wouldn't think that there would be much time involved. I don't think we are talking thousands of names, probably just a few hundred. If data protection is a problem the new promotion could set up a new list without too much trouble.
speedibee
There's a brick track shop behind and the Refs box is also Brick don't forget the brick refs box stands back further than the stands , any way it was put up in a day by shane parker so it would only take 2 days to move that , I'll get himback to do it if you like . track shop is on the outer perimiter so it don't need moving
1 valve
It really is truly fantastic that after all these years of most of us knowing that the track can be improved, that at last it is actually going to be improved. Further, the right people are involved and the intention is that this time everything will be addressed wherever possible. Hope the weather stays good!

speedibee
But wouldn't the track shop stop the stands from being moved back ? no not really , theres quite a lot of space at the back there , we are actually only talking a few feet anyway, and it's not completely impossible to put the higher edge of the stands above the shop and have a covered walkway underneath . Honey Monster
With all this excitement about the proposed alterations to the track. I Was thinking. Does anyone know what the original size and dimensions the track was going to take before Mr H decided my way is the only way? Were there any original plans of the track? I'd be interested to know.
