SCB
So 2 seasons ago we had the new, "2 seasons of doubling up" rule. So thats going to effect about a dozen riders. So do we think they'll drop the 2 years of doubling up rules or do you think they're going to force Cook, King, Kennett, Lawson, Grajczonek and Masters (off the top of my head, there must be more) to make a choice? dontforgetthefueltapsbruv
My first thought was its bound to be changed - particularly as it mostly affects British riders. But of course points limit changes in the PL could force some of those top averaged riders out so perhaps thats the way to keep it place and not to lose face. It'll be changed I suspect. It should be for British riders at least. Kennett has said on Facebook that he'll do PL if he has to choose between the two. Sidney the robin
If doubling up keeps the EL at a decent level this rule should remain without these riders the league is doomed.

Brian
The rule will be dropped as it's uncertain how many will choose the EL over PL potentially leading to a shortage of suitable riders.
Mark
If we have Cook, Bomber, Scotty etc doubling up it can only add to the sport and gates.

What would help is El going to set race nights and have priority on riders on those nights. Good fixture planning should avoid impact on PLAnd restrict doubling up to brits imo.

For me brits like Cook,Newman, Auty,Starke,Wright,Ellis?,S.Worrall,R.Worrall,Bates,Garrity.Jacobs,Clegg Kerr,Morris should always be aloud to double up ie) they have to make a living.Cook/ Morris showed last year that it is very hard to get a reliable spot and income abroad.Yes you are right restrict some foreigners as long as these British lads are looked after i have no problem. Surely it would be better to have an amalgamated British League, with sufficient fixtures, including KO Cups and regional mini-leagues (like we used to have), to provide a living for all riders who want to ride in the UK Doubling up/down has only caused massive problems where fixtures have clashed, resulting in a plethora of guests and absentees If we want to attract sponsors, new spectators, national awareness, of our great sport, it has to be rid of this nonsense of being able to ride for two teams, but only one at a time! It needs to be a nationwide main league, a north/south divide would mean, for example, Glasgow and Edinburgh fans not being able to see Poole or Ipswich teams, and vice versa Many knock looking-back scenarios, but they still look good to many as a positive way forward
Shale Searcher
But, does doubling up cause riders to stagnate? Become comfortable, the income from riding for 2 teams, in 2 leagues, negates their ambition/need to get better? Could it cause the UK speedway scene to be totally populated by average British Riders? A third rate national team forever? The riders would become devoid of the need to improve their speed/skill/equipment and basically go no further in speedway?
