Nl Pairs 16th October

I'm amazed that he called this off, when he's so good at turning tracks around in a very short space of time.

I am 13-miles from the stadium, so can only assume that conditions were a lot worse that short distance away, than they are here, which of course happens.

So disappointed, as last years meeting was probably the best speedway seen at the venue throughout the entire season, at any level (excluding WTC, as I never bothered with that), and despitea somewhat depleted field for this restaging, it still provided enough quality riders to make it an exciting afternoon of action.

Buster used to be the man for all weather seasons, wet or dry. What has changed.

Fans don't turn out!

At Eastbourne last night the track was waterlogged at 7.30. Less than an hour later with plenty of sawdust, the riders were at the tapes for Heat 1. It was nice to see some effort made to get the meeting on.

And the riders weren't happy, was it good racing? lol

Yep. just like the old days.

What when they used to don their overalls and slip and slide around for 4 laps all filled in with mud?

No, not always the case Trees, but then I'm talking about when I was your sort of age, and you were a twinkle in your parents eyes..LOL!!

The speedway season started in March so there has been plenty of time to fit this meeting in. So why we have to wait to the last two weeks of the seaon is beyond me. The weather in October is always unreliable. It's another British speedway balls up.

but wasn't this rained off earlier in the season?

Are you surprised that the fans don't turn out when the meeting isn't "promoted"? I think Buster is getting tired in his old age, and it's showing. No effort made to promote the event, no effort made to get the track sorted, in contrast to what went on at Eastbourne, and knowing Busters ability as the self proclaimed "best" track curator in the country.

My money is on Buster having had enough of his reign as BSPA supremo, and he'll want to stand down at the AGM.

I'm with CR.

There's a bit of difference between having a waterlogged track at start time and having one 4 hours before the start.

I want to see the riders giving 100%, if the track is so they can't call it off, rain offs are part if the sport. Unless they start racing on concrete it will always be so ....

Was it good racing?

Actually it wasn't bad, and a whole lot better than most of my group were expecting. The first few heats were a bit slippy and tentative but once the top surface had been "graded" by the bikes it was OK.

It was tricky, but I bet it was a useful part of learning for some riders, remember some of these guys are novices, it is the NL.

To be fair I think we all want that and we can all accept that rain offs happen.

The question lies in precisely how much effort is put in to making sure a meeting goes ahead. Mimmo has commented that the sun was coming out at 11.30; that's 4 hours before the start. Even if it had stopped at 1.00pm (as predicted) that's 2.5 hours.

Could you do a track in the latter time ? I'd say so, and that's precisely the point that CR was making.

KING’S Lynn have confirmed the twice-postponed National League Pairs will not be re-staged this season.

The meeting was initially scheduled for late-August but that and last weekend’s re-arrangement were both thwarted by the weather.

Lynn co-promoter Dale Allitt said: “It’s not a decision that has been taken lightly, as a lot of work had gone into the staging of this event, we were proud to have it at King’s Lynn, and we apologise to all supporters.

“It should be remembered that this meeting was originally to be run on a prime Saturday evening in the summer, and the weather was unfortunately against us on that day.

“The situation now is that over the next two weekends Eastbourne and Birmingham are contesting the two major Finals, and there are also a number of other league matches scheduled to complete the season.

“The Pairs is not the kind of event which can easily be run in midweek when you bear in mind travel and work commitments for riders and supporters, with clubs from throughout the league involved.”

No National League Pairs at King's Lynn this season but it's "business as usual" for the other motorsport action:
