Workington Concerns For Future

it wasnt that long ago that the stadium was upgraded for a rugby meeting of some sort  fresh paint , seats lights upgraded , etc . even the pitch was green and the shale was painted brown . its not a dump ,its just a stadium that allows rugby and speedway to have the same arena for entertainment . :D

Perhaps they have lost half their fans because people are just bored, finishing mid-table winning nearly every home match and losing away. Would say Saturday

is a good night for home meetings. Should never have got rid of Gromet the Comet, that's when the rot set in.

Its not just over there at the home of The Comics, it's a general decline across speedway. Speedway has lost it's mojo, the general fan base is an older declining fan base, in general still living in the past. Speedway needs a massive make over, rules need to be taken out of the hands of self interested speedway promoters and drastically simplified, they are no longer fit for purpose. It reminds me of the UK education system, every Government messes it about, its now looking at Grammar schools and Faith Schools, which were at the route of failure in education. Speedway needs to completely re structure starting from a zero point.

Derwent Park is being renovated right now in preparation for hosting the 4 Nations international RL game between Scotland and New Zealand on 11th November.

its not being renovated just tarted up

just like when the rugby made a big song and dance over its big make over

they got a 2nd hand digital score board that was place at the wrong end of the ground and was tiny compared to the big wodern 1 everybody looks at

they got new seats in the grand stand spent a lot of money on paint and money on floodlights that now shine directly on the pitch funny thing when the speedway wanted to upgrade flood lights town claimed they didnt need them so any upgrade was down to speedway but if you went past derwent park on rugby training nights the floodlights were always switched on ?

Article in this weeks SS, club not in trouble, not for sale (as reported by Ranting Roy in Newcastles programme) but running at an unsustainable loss. There'll be a decision made by the end of season meeting next Friday, thought it could be later cos it was thought the AGM was this weekend. I feel that Laura does want to continue, fingers crossed that she finds a way.

Not being funny, or anything, but surely that is a contradiction?

I really hope "my second team" sort everything out and come to the tapes in 2017 and for many seasons beyond.

laura and her team are true fans of the sport . its been common knowledge that there is a loss at most meetings . its just needs a bit of tweaking at the agm to find a solution for most clubs trying to make a go of it .

the solution is out there , hope the riders can see it and dont throw the toys out . .

maybe just running on one side if the tyre could reduce costs and turn the tyre around for the following meeting .

no advantage gained, everyone starts off with a new edge .

the only problem i can see is , where do you store the tyres until the return fixture .

gp riders change tyres every race . what a waste of a tyre .

The problem is the current tyres do not last long enough to just run on one edge. I saw a tyre ripped through to the cords after 5 rides on one edge at Scunthorpe and it wasn't a PL level rider.

The fact is that clubs can only run against what they bring in. Its time to stop paying the mega bucks to average riders. Either put them on a pay per performance structure or better set the limit and see who will sign? Yes some riders won't be interested at first but they might be when they don't have a team place.

If things don't change it won't be teams looking for riders as there won't be any teams left.

I think a lot of what you say is right, let all Brits double up, run EL and PL on different nights of the week.

If truth were told, I don't think they earn 'mega bucks' or indeed get paid what they deserve. However, what you say is right - there simply has to be an understanding on the part of riders that clubs cannot afford the present pay rates.
