Comet Dan
It's the last weekend in October. The makeup of the leagues will be a significant factor in if we run in 2017 which is why a decision will not be made until after then.

LagutaRacingFan
Under a Labour government, state pensions would rise which means more disposable income for the main demographic of speedway.

Lord Lucan
Under a Labour government, state pensions would rise which means more disposable income for the main demographic of speedway. Â I was under the impression that you had "retired" from the forum MF, or are you just one of those "main demographics" whom wont knock it on the head and continue working in order to keep young people out of a job? Halifaxtiger
Â What happened, in my opinion, was that they lost Glyn Taylor (for whatever reason) and also lost the Swales's. On top of that, they changed the track slightly and ever since then the racing hasn't been as good. The same can be said of Derwent Park. Since they reshaped the track slightly, the racing I saw every week when filming or when I was there doing the interviews (for GRT Media), hasn't been the same. Â On the first bit, I think you are dead right (although I am not a fan of the Swales' track preparation). Â On the second, I have been up 4 times in about 6 weeks. There's no way I'd have made a 300 mile round trip for rubbish.

Halifaxtiger
Well its either the racing or Pizza Boy is brilliant company.  I am not quite sure who 'Pizza Boy' is (although I can make shrewd guess ).  No matter whose company I had, if the racing was crap I wouldn't go. Put it this way, I have an awful lot of time for you, Wayne, Cozzie and young Jordan but won't be there on Thursday. At the end of the day I'd more rather be in Redcar's position than Workington's, while I'm here actually all the best to Worky hope you guys survive for next season, as well as Plymouth and my team Berwick, fingers crossed  I can't disagree with that but the thing is as I have said Redcar's gates seem to hold up no matter what.  3 wooden spoons in 7 seasons and just one finish in the top half of the table would be disastrous for most clubs.  There also has to be a recognition that their expenses (not including those for riders) are way, way cheaper than Workington's. Ovalman
Would be sad to see Worky go, was a regular up there. in the days of stoney and steady 2004/5, good crowds averaging around 1200. What size crowds now? Good luck Comets.
topaz325
Average crowd at a guess....550?  So why....  Too much Speedway on Tv, maybe with EL , SGP, Swedish League and free streaming on boxes?  A lot of Sports televised live or freely available, Football from the UK and Europe, Rugby, Cricket and Boxing being big draws for the Public.  The Comets not having a winning team?, maybe not we always put out a competitive side at the start of the season.  Saturday race night, many events and family occasions occur on Saturdays, maybe a different race night be helpful.  Politics of the Sport, rules are overly complex and open to lets say...being manipulated.  So what could be changed next year if the sport was to survive, possible different race night, a rent paid to the owners dependent on the crowd that turned up, a slick and well presented race format , rider expenses cut. My personal bugbear the TR rule.  Transparency from the BSPA.  A well thought out fixture list with no long breaks between meetings (weather permitting), maybe a shorter season or get the League campaign completed on time, ie not running matches after the Play offs have started!!  Too many riders missing due to doubling up, I know some riders depend on riding in both EL and PL, strange occurrence lately when Eddie Kennet had to ride in the ELRC but had to miss riding for his own team (Rye House) in a vital match!!  Just a few thoughts maybe some are not viable ...... Lack of a superstar number 1 at Worky might be one of the reasons too . Ok when Stoney ruled the roost at Derwent Park , the track was very slick . Co-incidence or not , I don't know , but the track has been pretty decent in recent seasons . But there's no doubt when the Comets had either Stoney or Stead or both spearheading their septet , the crowds were a lot larger than now . But also what is obvious is that Derwent Park is in need of a fair bit of upgrading , the main stand in particular is looking very threadbare . But that is no doubt out of the Comets' promotions hands , but not helping matters nevertheless . I sincerely hope the threat to the future of speedway in Workington is unfounded and the Comets come to the tapes in whatever form the Premier League presents itself in 2017 .
