Workington V Glasgow 08/10/16 19:00hrs 2nd Leg League Cup

Recommended Posts

So the Comets again entertain the Glasgow Tigers after the rained off meeting two weeks ago, all we can do is go for the win as the aggregate score is too much to make up.

Good luck Worky, is this the last Speedway meeting at Workington, going to be an interesting AGM..........

Weather should be ok but probably going to be a cold one.

Speedway, April to September anyone?

Speedway never learns from its own issues. The PL cut off should be the end of August with each round of the playoffs given a defined week e.g. week commencing 1 September so that it can be dealt with by the end of the month including rain offs. October speedway is rarely fun and its always freezing.

Its also time for shared events to be moved away from weekends and for a more robust fixture list to ensure clubs dont go weeks on end in the summer without a home fixture when the weather is often glorious.

You know that'll never happen, because it makes too much sense

Would fans be willing to travel (and prob have to take extra holidays) midweek for 'Big Events' though? The Pairs is only well attended on a Friday due to Cardiff being the following night, I would suggest. The Fours, over the two days worked well, from what you read on here. So that'll stay for 2017 you would think. Would the PLRC be attended as well if raced say, on a Thursday, rather than the Sunday?

id go for may start

the season needs to be compressed and regular meetings no long gaps in home meetings

No Kenneth Hansen for this meeting

where did you hear this

no surprise as he definatly upped his game last week

maybe some of the rumours regarding hansan were correct

Absolutely shocking if this is true. Why have Workington not announced this. I hope they not trying to hide this fact if it is true.

Hansen has rode to drop his average the last couple of months and succeeded and rubbed it in with that performance on Saturday why has that effort been the last few months ????

So, we have the report that Jensen is ill and wont be riding now Hansen is off on his jollies and wont be riding either, a match with an almost insurmountable mountain to climb to get a result and a management hoping for a decent crowd as it could be the last meeting ever, well, unless Glasgow bring it there wont be a crowd once this gets out? :o

Very sad to see us in this situation, never thought I would ever see us plumb such depths, can we get a guest rider in for this scenario to at least make a fist of it or are we stuck with the NL option only?

Whichever way it goes I hope we get a decent match, finish off this debacle and settle down for a week or three before making any decisions, we could survive as a club with the right ingredients but, do the people of Workington actually want a Speedway club?

What percentage of the PLRC crowd were actually Sheffield fans? Fans no longer travel the way they used to and these type of events are greatly devalued in the modern era. I suspect that holding it at a normally well attended club on their usual race night would be just as good, and free up a weekend in the process.

Great to finish with a hard fought win, bit cobbled together but the slightly better in depth scoring just won the day for us!! :D

Not a half bad meeting either in most respects, some pretty good racing served up in front of a decent looking crowd, ahh, what you can achieve with the right product? ;)

Good to see a healthy contingent from Glasgow down tonight, it's been a very long time since I looked up from my prog and saw a visiting supporter in the Shed!! :D

Going to be a bit of a waiting game now to see whether it'll be worth the effort going again next year, tonight's meeting showed you can get decent racing to entertain the crowd, making it a regular occurrence is the trick we couldn't manage this time around so desperately hoping we get another chance?

No point looking into the, "whom would you get" stakes just yet, I'll wait for the green light first, desperate times ahead in the short term?

Yes another entertaining night of Speedway and a narrow win for the Comets.

For Glasgow the main men of Worrall Lawson and Bach did the bulk of the scoring with the race of the night probably from Bach when he went round Mason Campton !!

For the Comets it was a good all round team performance and they all seemed to be really up for a fight to get the win

, once again my man of the match was Ricky Wells who came up with a win in heat 15 to make sure Comets won on the night.

The crowd was similar to previous weeks but bolstered by a large group of Tigers fans who to be fair made the trip despite being already through to the final, well done to them.

Once again a few fans in the grandstand thought it funny to boo Richard Lawson, very strange.
